That's what you get for naming a capital ship after a person, much less a living person.

FTFA:The mother of one sailor aboard the ship sent out a press release during the weekend about the widespread toilet outages.

"The sailors aboard the USS George H.W. Bush have already endured nearly six months with an unhealthy 'inconvenience' that most civilians would not tolerate for six hours," Mary Brotherton wrote.

Her son, Petty Officer 1st Richard Frakes, said in an e-mail interview he sometimes has had to search nearly an hour for a working toilet.

Good luck on your next fitness report Richy.

As a former navy sailor, I can honestly say there were more than a few times we had to deal with "Brown Trout season"... Mainly in the berthings for the ET's, EM's and MM's, which just happen to be the most hated divisions on ship... Coincidence?

There was also the time where we lost ships service steam while in port, and our berthing temps got down to 36 degrees... I was stealing all the blankets off anyone's rack who wasn't there on duty just to stay warm at night while I had to live on the ship...

There's a few hundred reasons I got out of the navy, and these 2 are just the tip of the iceberg...

The military needs something. Quick! Let's be outraged and send money. A lot of money! They are all gods and deserve to be our next leaders based on their cowardice in their unwillingness to oppose their country's reckless wars.

...and why some might ask? (while blinded by the hate).

Upon hearing of the Pearl Harbor attack, while a student at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., George Bush decided he wanted to join the Navy to become an aviator. Six months later, after graduation, he enlisted in the Navy on his 18th birthday and began preflight training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After completing the 10-month course, he was commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve on 9 June 1943, several days before his 19th birthday; making him the youngest naval aviator then.

Bush's aircraft was hit and his engine caught on fire. He completed his attack and released the bombs over his target scoring several damaging hits. With his engine on fire, Bush flew several miles from the island, where he and one other crew member on the TBM Avenger bailed out of the aircraft. However, the other man's chute did not open and he fell to his death. It was never determined which man bailed out with Bush. Both Delaney and White were killed in action. While Bush anxiously waited four hours in his inflated raft, several fighters circled protectively overhead until he was rescued by the lifeguard submarine, USS Finback. For this action, Bush received the Distinguished Flying Cross. During the month he remained on Finback, Bush participated in the rescue of other pilots.

A real scumbag, amiright?

The Navy told the newspaper in a written response to questions most of the outages -- and the ones that take longest to fix -- have been caused by sailors flushing "inappropriate material or items" down the toilets.

For crying out loud, stop flushing the used condoms. Just throw them over the side.

I'm curious what ship has engineers and twidgets living together? Was is a nuke? Those 3 rates can be nuclear.

I didn't serve in the glow Navy but on the Saratoga A-gang and E-Div berthed together, below the jet shop and 1 deck above R and M Division. IIRC we all shared a common head. ET's were in the thinner air.

The United States Marine Corps traces its institutional roots to the Continental Marines of the American Revolutionary War.

They were called Marines cause their job was on-board security, and protecting the captian of a ship and the officers.

It is unlikely that this is the contractors' fault. A system-wide problem is 99% likely to be a design flaw. It is not uncommon for the military to assign personnel to tasks, like designing a sewage system on a carrier, without any consideration of the person's skills. I've been on both sides of the problem.
