As someone who still plays V:tM: How about f********ck no?

I'll put it this way: If they insert a surprise twist in which the movie ends abruptly after the main characters get jumped by some Sabbat in a dark alley, then I'm in. I'll go see it twice if they get tortured and disfigured by a Tzimisce.

Oh, wait, it's just a bunch of tween romance/angst crap with watery vampire window-dressing as a cover for Puritanical morals. Maybe that's why it doesn't have more love from the "geek community".

That would've made for a great cameo as a tweaker in Season 1.

So, a book with a bad plot and terrible writing, that's full of misogyny but was made into a movie because moronic young women can't see the misogyny in it... is a geek movie?

How about no.

Question: If I have watched any of the Twilight Movies only because of Riff Trax, does that count as actually watching the movie or can I still say I have never seen the movie?

2011-11-18 11:36:35 AM
Alright so...Taking a wild stab at trying to explain my answer instead of just putting HOW ABOUT NO?

I think the difference is that nerds like things of quality, no matter how popular or unpopular they may be. A well written story, well drawn article, a very innovative and "out there" idea as the basis for a storyline...that's why nerds, more than anyone else get mad when they feel someone is "phoning it in" or not really trying.

Compare that to Twilight...the fact that Edward is a vampire, might as well have been an afterthought. The story is about the "perfect" boyfriend/girlfriend....who occasionally face trouble. Sure there's unapproving parents/family etc...but the fact is that Meyers didn't even try anything new, or put any real effort into the books. She just churned out a romance book, slapped a coating of vampire onto it, and mass produced it. The movies don't try to have good acting, or special effects or anything really, they're just beating the twilight horse.

2011-11-18 11:42:51 AM
I won't watch it, even with Rifftrax... Sorry, but I just can't. Make me watch Santa Clause and the Ice Cream Bunny a thousand times over... force my eyes open as Invasion of the Neptune Men streams into my brain until I die... I will not watch Twilight.

fark no. This came up in fandom awhile ago that we should support all the little girls because they were tiny fangirls too. I told them to go fark themselves then and I will say the same now. I found it hilarious that these were the same ladies that biatch constantly about the patriarchy and then said we have to support this [women negative] garbage because young girls like it.

Go screw yourself lady. It was not made for a certain kind of geek. It was made to appeal to dimwitted 13 year old idiots. It takes a lot more than people get obsessive and it and it has werewolves in to make it geek. Twilight is just farking Wuthering Heights for retards.

And now I hate Wired for publishing this and that was my favorite magazine.

From now on, at minimum, in order to be called a geek you have to be able to take apart a computer because this is like saying I'm a geek because I watched The Sentinel.

Before I respond let me be clear. Sparkling cold teens who dance about mocking the art that Bram Stoker and the like created is appauling to me.

BUT

I assume the (Checks your post) V: tM, what ever the hell that is your into, is some kind of fringe nerd crap that either involves furry or LARPing. I could be wrong but that said, your the pot calling the kettle black.

Just ignore this, as I have V: tM. My life is no different from either aside from the laugh I get when my lovely and beautiful wife puts this twilight schlock on the TV and I go to my computer hold to indulge my own nerdy interests.

You are no different that the music snob who "heard this first" or "X did it better". Just leave people be and enjoy what ever they like. Hell, I bet you enjoy other stuff that is laughable as well (ex. 8$ Starbucks coffee, McDonalds, Coldplay, etc....). And you know what? More power to you, and even GOOD on you. That is what makes this planet decent and fun to live on.

Nerd lws.

Now if 5 o'clock can just get here so I can resume Skyrim........

mongbiohazard: Don't forget the sad, desperate 30-somethings.

Some of my friends are in their 50s and love the series.

The other thing I don't get about this article is the idea that geeks somehow support what other geeks do or give a shiat about them. Yes, we all stand in solidarity against the football players! I guess she's never seen the geek hierarchy chart.

Does it take much more obsessive attention to detail to memorize the age at which Edward was turned into a vampire than it does to know what triggers Wolverine's berserker rage?

Yes. Yes, it does. There is a huge difference between knowing information from 4 [5?] books and knowing specific details about one character from decades of comics. Edward was made a vampire at age 17. I know this despite never reading the books, and hating them with all my heart. Nice try.

Burr: Question: If I have watched any of the Twilight Movies only because of Riff Trax, does that count as actually watching the movie or can I still say I have never seen the movie?

I couldn't even make it through the Riff Trax version. They were funny, but the movie is so bad that it didn't even fail all the way around to awesome in it's badness. Unlike Mitchell...

Don't ever put those two into any comparison. One is quite possibly the greatest show on TV and the other is a lame movie based on a bunch of crappy books written by some stupid mormon. I'll take methamphetamine over mormons any day of the week. I think anyone who believes in magic underwear shouldn't be getting their shiatty book turned into multi-million dollar movies. Hollywood is farking up, they might as well give Glenn Beck a movie deal too while they are at it.
