TheDumbBlonde: The victim was "molested" until he was 27 years old? Really?

The alleged victim, Bobby Davis, now 39, told Outside the Lines that Fine molested him beginning in 1983 shortly before Davis entered the seventh grade.

So...yeah.

Y'know, it's just getting to the point that anyone who shows an interest in working with children shouldn't be allowed to work with children.

Yeah, at that point is basically consentual. I mean punch the guy in the face if you don't want a fist up your anus

I've been saying that Bernie Fine looks like a child molestor for like 20 years now.

/used to volunteer time to work with "disadvantaged"/"underprivileged" kids
//got spooked when a coworker got accused, and I was the only witness to what hadn't happened; gave it up
///not saying he's innocent or guilty

Molested until you were 27? LMAO. Dude really liked that Fine dick up his ass well into adulthood.

Sounds like somebody wants to make money off the coattails of a true tragedy in Penn State.

2011-11-18 12:03:08 AM
This one could get interesting. Jim Boeheim came out extremely behind his assistance.

"I've known Bernie Fine for 45 years, and there's absolutely no way that I believe any of this could possibly have happened," he said. "That's the bottom line."

"Syracuse University takes any allegation of this sort extremely seriously and has zero tolerance for abuse of any kind. If any evidence or corroboration of the allegations had surfaced, we would have terminated the associated coach and reported it to the police immediately. We understand that the Syracuse City Police has now reopened the case, and Syracuse University will cooperate fully. We are steadfastly committed ensuring that SU remains a safe place for every member of our campus community."

Here's the problem: Why do these people think they have the authority to keep it internal and not tell police, real no-shiat police and not campus security?

Same thing with the recent rape at Notre Dame (by a football player; it was covered up and the victim killed herself) and the Marquette University cover ups too. fark.

I don't know anything about this case (obviously it's not quite like the Sandusky scandal, legally speaking, at this point), but Jim Boeheim better be right... because he's going to come off looking worse than JoePa in some ways if he's not.

Here's your problem, you don't read. This wasn't an internal matter by the time 'Cuse investigated. They held their own investigation AFTER the police knew of the allegations and choose not to prosecute.

"Syracuse's senior vice president for public affairs, issued a statement on behalf of the school: "In 2005, Syracuse University was contacted by an adult male who told us that he had reported to the Syracuse City Police that he had been subjected to inappropriate contact by an associate men's basketball coach. The alleged activity took place in the 1980's and 1990's. We were informed by the complainant that the Syracuse City Police had declined to pursue the matter because the statute of limitations had expired."

Or he could have been conditioned from years of molestation to think that he had to sleep with him. You see it happen with women who were molested by older male family members from the time they were children. The molesters have some kind of hold on them that they can't break.

2011-11-18 03:51:24 AM
If I were president, director, etc., of any institution or business in which children were my primary clients / customers / responsibility, I would be on red-alert status these days.
Then I would take a deep breath, double-check with a lawyer and police, and call my employees together and make damn sure they know chapter and verse about what to do, and when, if they see a fellow employee or anyone else abusing, or leaving evidence of abuse, on any of our youngsters.

2011-11-18 04:20:55 AM
Fine's fine with Ball Boy's Balls? Boy, that smells like BS to me. It would be pretty hard to molest someone for a decade if it wasn't consensual. It's not like he could lock the guy in a basement ala Fritzl.

Pretty sure this one will be determined to be BS. It was investigated years ago and dropped for being unsubstantiated. Let's not drag a guys name through the mud until we know.

mc_madness: Sounds like somebody wants to make money off the coattails of a true tragedy in Penn State.

If this was the first report, I might agree. However, the victim reported to the police and went public in the press, starting in 2003. So he has a touch more credibility than if he "remembered" the abuse after the Sandusky clusterfark.

blunto: Pretty sure this one will be determined to be BS. It was investigated years ago and dropped for being unsubstantiated. Let's not drag a guys name through the mud until we know.

Actually, it was dropped because the statute of limitations had expired, and there was nothing the police could do criminally.

/not saying he did it - this is the first I'm hearing of it and I haven't had enough coffee

//when vics of one perp come forth publicly, though, it often leads to a cascade of other unrelated vics disclosing - safety and courage in numbers, etc.

"We were informed by the complainant that the Syracuse City Police had declined to pursue the matter because the statute of limitations had expired."

apparently the person at the city police who declined to pursue the matter is an ex-Syracuse coach/player. Sound familiar?

off to find a reference for this ...

2011-11-18 08:21:08 AM
As they say, when you work with children - it's not a matter of if you get accused, just a matter of when.

really hope none of this is true.

2011-11-18 08:25:27 AM
I think I will wait until this one plays out some more.

Jim Boeheim came out strongly defending the coach, and called one of the accusers a liar. He better hope he's right.

THIS. Let's go ahead and blow up the school, and characterize anyone associated with the university since the beginning of time as an enabler. You know, just to be safe...and to get all the good headlines.

blunto: Pretty sure this one will be determined to be BS. It was investigated years ago and dropped for being unsubstantiated. Let's not drag a guys name through the mud until we know.

Like how Sandusky was investigated and the case was dropped years before?

You don't understand how this works. Involved even tangentially in an accusation of child abuse and you are done. It doesn't matter if you couldn't have known, or if the charges are trumped up or just plain false. You and the two people closest to you will be crucified. You know, for the children.

There is no problem with making sure that allegations are investigated, but our bloodthirsty paparazzi culture prevents investigations from proceeding as they should. Investigations should be complete and discrete. The radioactive nature of child abuse charges necessitates it. When peoples lives are on the line you don't want witnesses second guessing reporting what they saw.

If you immediately break stories with 'XYZ accused of child rape' that persons life is over. And such implications only make real protections for abuse victims even harder.
