Great big horrible alien Egyptian robots. This is how the pyramids were built; the stones were like tiny Lego blocks to them.

Might be? Look at his hair. How does anyone leave the house looking like that, let alone sit in front of a TV camera, unless they are high as a kite?

Their findings show the so-called end-Permian mass extinction, sometimes referred to as the 'Great Dying', peaked just before 252 million years ago and took place very quickly, over a period of less than 200,000 years.

"Very quickly", of course, being a relative term.
If one were to be waiting on line at the ATM for that period. for instance, it would in fact seem to be an interminably long time.

You know what I just found out? The guy who played the stuck-up British officer who let the TV crews into Hobbs End Tube station to get close to the "secret weapon" is the same guy who later played General Veers in "Empire Strikes Back."

FTA: "Our data on the timing and pace of the end-Permian mass extinction are consistent with rapid CO2 [carbon dioxide] increase as indicated by distinct paleophysiologic effects of the ecosystem, a sharp drop in O2 [oxygen] and substantial addition of atmospheric sulphate-bearing aerosols," they write.

Doesnt show if the CO2 was a side effect or the primary driver of the extinction event. A chicken and the egg situation. Interesting nonetheless. They should have given specifics of the geology though.

Meh... that extinction event was okay, I guess. Killing off all those trilobites or whatever. But, the Toba Catastrophe (^) was better, because it had humans. Some estimates figure that the entire human race was knocked down to approx. 1000 individuals. 1000... you probably see more than that on a regular day.*

The question is unresolvable given a 200,000-year margin of error, although *something* had to have forced the initial atmospheric changes. A supervolcano or large impact could release the CO2 as well as the sulfate aerosols, and continent-scale fires would reduce O2 as well. The exact geography will be unknown until/unless a specific source or sources can be found.
