I have a friend who tries real hard to be a hipster. He goes out of his way to listen to bands no one has ever heard of. Of course he works for apple. I blame his weird girlfriend.

Hipsters are a symptom of a lack of cultural roots of America. Everybody needs a niche. Plus, in my European country, Red Bull is only ever drunk by ugly petty criminals of the Islamic kind. Because they can't drink alcohol with their friends in public.

I avoid pop music. But then, I listen to metal music, very little of which gets on the radio.

That being said I own two Lomography cameras along with my digital camera now.

What kind of non-conformist stuff can you still do? Everyone hates all of these groups and has a designation for each one. My bike has a free wheel and I like wearing cardigans. I don't have any tattoos, but I use that Dr. Bronner soap. What must I do when too may things overlap? What if hipsters start wearing polo shirts and hiking boots?

As for myself? I own an iPhone and love it. I listen to obscure music, I'm an analog synthesizer enthusiast. I'm left wing, I support OWS. I enjoy books by William S Burroughs and Stanislaw Lem. I don't follow any sports at all. Nickelback makes me physically ill.

On the redneck side.

I work at a mine. I get around in steel cap work boots, track pants and freebie shirts from industrial suppliers. I honestly believe wine from a box is often equal to wine from a bottle, and the price difference is a product of marketing and self qualified status image. I enjoy many of the films of Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider, fark, I even get a laugh from America's funniest home videos. I can enjoy schwarzenneger movies without irony. I love the occasional fast food meal. Big Mac's and KFC is Devine.

Of all the people I know, 50% would classify me as yuppy scum, the other 50% would classify me as an inbred hillbilly fark-knuckle.
