Oh good job, they're ordering the 737 Max which won't be introduced until 2017 according to Boeing. Given how well development of the 787 went, that'll be 2018 at the earliest.

It's a good time to be a airplane manufacturer. Fuel is finally expensive enough for airlines to put the investment into the new stuff like the 787 and 737 max and a380 and ditch the DCs and MDs.

Pity. I always liked takeoffs in the MD-80 series. Planes always felt like they were leaping into the air. Very spritely takeoff rolls.

I liked landings. It usually meant that the migraine I was trying to dull with painkillers and vodka because I sat in the back rows was about to end.

I got to the point where I'd wait for the next flight rather than sit in the last 3 rows of an MD-80. Your whole head would vibrate so earplugs were worthless.

727's were much better. You could nearly stand them up on end if you wanted.

Air travel comes in rather handy when your country consists of 250 million people living on 6000 islands.

Lion is a pretty good airline, but they definitely needed to upgrade their fleet. Their new planes are really nice, the others are really old. I think part of it was their rapid early expansion required them to buy old planes since they couldn't wait for new ones.

Now if Indonesia can do something about airport checkins for domestic flights, that would be impressive. If you didn't know any better you'd think it was a bunch of people at the dog track trying to collect their winnings.

I never feel secure with 777.
