'More than a decade' constitutes 'iconic'?

It was far sadder when the Union 76 clock tower came down to make room for the new high rise apartments that near the Bay Bridge.

Jamdug!: 'More than a decade' constitutes 'iconic'?

Iconic means people recognize it, not that old people think it's been around long enough to be important.

I never heard of this icon, but I was crushed when they disassembled the Spindle.

Neon Graveyard? Park it there next to the Geocities sign.

Amazingly enough, the Yahoo sign in downtown Fukushima glows, and it's made from cardboard and aluminum

I drive by it almost everyday I'll miss that sign.

Sorry, I've been in the bay area my entire life and I've never seen it.

The Yahoo sign is really neat, but how is it "iconic" when it sits mere yards away from the neon Coke sign?

That is an icon. We're still keeping it, right?

Right?

So why is it coming down? Maybe my reading comprehension is declining with age, but I didn't see it in TFA. Not like Yahoo has run out of money.

I loved drinking that stuff when I was a kid. Why does progress aways destroy my childhood memories?

Before the Internet, "San Francisco's Iconic Neon Yahoo" would have described quite a few people.

They just upgraded it a couple years ago to be more energy efficient. Seems like they don't plan on removing it soon.

What about the old Hamms beer sign? I used to love that one as a kid. Sad to see that one go. It beats the Coca-Cola one by a mile.

Aw, when did that happen? My family moved back to Oklahoma in the early 80s, and I really miss the days in the Bay Area.
