As a former marching band nerd myself, I find their antics to be hilarious. But I also understand that it's detrimental to school spirit and a bit classless.

I'd let them come to play--if they put on pads and practice full-contact drills first.

When I read the headline I thought it was going to be the "band" from UVA or Stanford.

Im OK with this.

/they're horrible, even by Ivy League standards

Having suffered through the Terry Allen years in the KU band, I can relate. But man, at least we always won a game or two every year. 0-9 in the Ivy League? Ouch...I can't blame them for the snark.

Pumpernickel bread: When I read the headline I thought it was going to be the "band" from UVA or Stanford.

Virginia has a real band (new window) now after their silly one embarrassed the school one too many times.

/Saw UVA play Michigan in 1997
//UVA fans were great
///Their band just sat their in orange vests, occasionally playing incoherent music, and did nothing at halftime
////Why go all the way from Virginia to Ann Arbor and not put on a show?

On the bright side, they don't have to go to the game!

shiat, I'm pretty sure my high school's fight song was "We're not losing yet!"

My New Mexico Lobos have gone 3-35 over the last several seasons, so I'm getting quite a kick out of the band's reply.

Lived in Albuquerque and always wanted to root for the Lobos but they were never ever good. They were just WAC.

My high school pep band once got yelled at by the football coach for playing the Hallelujah Chorus when the team scored a touchdown. He said it was "disrespectful to the team."

/it was the first time we'd gotten the chance to bust out that song
//the way the team was playing was "disrespectful to the team" :P

Would a more appropriate response have been to force them to watch the entire game? Having been in marching band in high school, it was never fun going to football or basketball games when the team played like a bunch of turds. What made it worthwhile is that you had friends all around you to talk to, so actually being there wasn't such a drag.

Personal responsibility, people!! If you fellas on the team want the band to quit makin' fun of you, quit doin' stuff that's worthy of being made fun of. Like losing.

I first thought the band made some blue joke. They made fun of you for having a perfect losing season and you got butthurt? Wow - a wee sensitive for football players, aren't we.

If they are really worried about their reputation and school spirit, perhaps the team should start winning a few games. I'm not condoning what the band did, but the team did suck and the band didn't say anything untrue.

One of my old students who is on the marching band there posted onto Facebook last night that the decision was reversed (new window)

I used to go to Columbia games all the time back when I was in high school (our ID card looked close enough to CU's that I got in for their $5 student rate), and trust me when I tell you it wasn't for the actual football being played. The CUMB was/is the best part of the Columbia football experience by a country mile, while Baker Field (I'm still calling it Baker) has some of the most beautiful sightlines in the country. Well worth my fin every other week back in the late 80s.

TIme to take back the longest losing streak?

Suck it, Prairie View!

"The Athletics Program welcomes the band to our football games to promote school spirit.

That's all they had to say. Then they ruined it with

"Our football players, coaches, alumni, [and] parents are extremely hurt ... Because of the band's disrespect for the feelings..."

Quit acting like girls. (No offense to girls.) Just say the band isn't doing its job and give them the boot.

When we played UNM a few weeks ago, the halftime show had Col Sanders killing Qaddafi with a rubber chicken. It was the week he died, so we're all in the stands (the other band) just trying to figure out if we should laugh or not. And then for some reason the statue of liberty had her clothes ripped off by a shark.

Weird weekend.

I remember our high school band left in the middle of the game during a really cold road game when the team was losing badly. The rest of the school hated the band for the rest of the year after that. Was funny, but the team was terrible.

/not such a cool story bro

Wow. That's quite beautiful. You just don't see that in the NFL or many other pro sports.

I stand by his use of quotes from calling LSJUMB a "band." They're a bunch of asswipe frat dorks who are just there to pull pranks and troll the fark out of everyone, all while happening to hold instruments.
