Former Freddie Mac officials told Bloomberg Gingrich was asked "to build bridges to Capitol Hill Republicans and develop an argument on behalf of the company's public-private structure that would resonate with conservatives seeking to dismantle it."

Lobbyist or historian?

Another day, another Republican candidate scandal. Ho-hum.

It just seems like the second some GOP also-ran manages to capture the flag of "frontrunner" for a week or so, some skeleton comes shambling out of his closet and does a Donald Sutherland-quality gaping finger-point. Whether it's Cain's sexual harassment, Rick Perry's racist rock, or Newt's shady lobbying crap, the second they're in the lead, BOOM. They get a bridge dropped on 'em.

I mean, not that I'm complaining. I think it's f*cking hilarious, actually. Especially because everyone knows that all these means Romney's going to get the eventual nomination just by virtue of the fact that he's blander than tapioca, but that same "quality" means he doesn't have a snowball's chance of actually getting elected.

It's probably Mitt Romney releasing the information

It is interesting how much dirt fellow Republicans have on each other and how quickly they use it.

What's even funnier is how they all turn around and endorse the eventual nominee. Y'know...the same schmuck they spent the last few months' worth of twice-daily televised debates tearing down as inferior.

At the rate the gop candidates are imploding, Huntsman can just bide his time until the convention.

it's a good strategy though, air all the dirty laundry out now so it's all old news by the time the general election comes around.

Ohhhhh.....I like this game! It's like "Kid or Drunk" from How I Met Your Mother.

Abramoff said he saw the "seeds of arrogance" that appear in evidence under these circumstances when he saw Gingrich in Congress.

Translation: I knew a greedy mark when I saw one.

From the article, Newt received a:

"...self-renewing, monthly retainer of $25,000 to $30,000 between May 1999 and 2002"

www.best-horror-movies.com

They mostly pay with retainers, mostly.

It is quite simple, each candidate has a brothel waiting room full of scandals just waiting for their turn. Why why you dig-up the next scandal prematurely?

Why would you start talking about Cain's dog fight gambling history or Perry's brief affair with his aunt, when Newt is still flailing about being outed as a lobbyist for the type of people he claims is the biggest problem with DC?

After all of these scandals and gaffes by the GOP candidates, I'm going to start taking futures bets on what will derail the next "front runner". My money will be on us finding out Rick Santorum ate all the DNA-laden evidence in the santorum left over from the Sandusky shower.(BTW how are you a front runner when Romney is the only one who is ever in the lead? Is it another Romney flip flop? "I'm the front runner. Just kidding. Just kidding about being just kidding." Wait... that's Hermain Cain's schtick.)

"I heard that Newt blows goats." -Herman Cain

But seriously, back in my bartender days I had Newt as a customer (this was when in 2000 or so). I already disliked him but my personal politics don't effect my work and I treat everyone equally well. Anyway, things were going just fine until some completely minor problem - so minor that I don't even remember what it was - set him into a full blown tantrum. I don't mean complaining to a manager or whatever, but an actual 8 year-old's tantrum.

The man is a jerk both in policy and in personality.

I can completely envision this happening. The ego and sense of entitlement with so little achievement of so many of these politicians leads me to believe that the are actually sociopaths.

Soup4Bonnie: Why is anyone listening to that scumbag?

I sent a text to my Tea Party friend the other day asking just that. She responded saying she admires his deep Catholic faith and love of Pope John Paul (she's a Catholic who grew up on the southside of Chicago). I asked her, "Given his views on marriage and history of infidelity, don't you think it's likely he's just faking it for political gain?"

She told me only religious people should worry about moral issues, then said that Obama is a bigger hypocrite and liar so why do I care?

I just think he's funny. I don't take him seriously or anything.

just for grins (and because I don't want to work), I started clicking through the stories. Could not find a no-shill story.

I did click on a 'breaking news' link, which brought me to a boring story. When I hit "back", it opened a "are you sure you want to navigate away from this page?" message, informing me that I'd be giving up my opportunity to purchase this book. I closed the page.

NOW IT'S GONE. I can't get it back. I have no idea what I'm supposed to be terrified of, and now I can't go back and find out. I don'w know what to stockpile and who to buy it from. They weren't kidding that you miss the opportunity.

CAN YOU HELP? I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO BE TERRIFIED OF!!!!

You'd think that but the scary this is she actually isn't. She was the valedictorian of my high school and graduated from a reputable college with high honors and she's now pursuing a Masters degree at a different good school. She voted for Obama in 2008, but has since moved to a Fox News/talk radio-only media diet. Now all she does is herp and derp about Communism. She even tried to defend Gingrich's "Soon we'll be in an atheist country ruled by militant Islam" comment.

I guess that's why I keep talking to her. The optimist in me wants to believe she's smart enough to eventually take a step outside the echo chamber realize this giant liberal conspiracy she's so afraid of is just fiction created by professional fearmongerers. I guess it's easier for her to fall for all that bullshiat because, like most Republicans I know, she's quite susceptible to religious pandering.

This primary has been living up to all expectations, but i'm thinking it may be peaking too early. Newt doesn't look like he's going to last a week, so all we have left are Santorum and Huntsman? We're still 2 months away from the first primaries.

Well, getting straight A's does not really mean she is smart (I'm not saying she isn't)... it means she is a hard worker. You can be smart as hell but if you don't do your assignments and don't study for tests, you won't get A's, period.

My apologies. I shouldn't have been so blunt. I know intelligent people who side with republicans exclusively and am constantly amazed by it too. All logic just thrown to the wind. Democrats have to be wrong on everything... so, no matter how stupid the GOP take on any subject is, they must be right!

Scary.

mrshowrules: The ego and sense of entitlement with so little achievement of so many of these politicians leads me to believe that the are actually sociopaths.

"Sociopath" is too often thrown around to describe people we don't like, but in Newt's (and Palin's, et al) case I think the diagnosis is straight on. Look at how these people behave. They have no regard for anyone but themselves. Not a trace of empathy. That's pretty much the definition of sociopath. Hell, it wouldn't be a huge stretch to refer to the modern GOP's entire platform as sociopath. I know that sounds like hyperbole but seriously, just sit down and think about it.

My father is ridiculously well-educated, and he's also stuck in the echo chamber. While never a liberal, he was always even-keeled. So it was disheartening to watch his politics and debate tactics change commensurate with the rise of (and frequency of him watching) FOX News. Now the guy is an alarmist pants-shiatter who thinks Obama is simultaneously incompetent yet also a diabolical genius hell-bent on destroying America.

People can accuse Fark of being a liberal echo chamber as well, but here's the important difference - I don't actually get my news here. I come here to chat with smart people who have similar opinions. But in the morning I get an AP feed, not Glen Beck's blog and Fox and Friends. My dad, sadly, literally will not consume any source of info but FOX (he thinks even the Associated Press is a vast liberal conspiracy) and his seriously creepy favorites list of blowhard blogs. Like your friend much of it is the easy success of religious pandering.

Jesus may have turned water into wine, but he also made plenty of smart people instantly retarded.
