"Lawyers with the Justice Department's Fraud Section have alleged that the co-conspirators stacked Las Vegas Valley homeowners association boards with members who pushed for construction defect lawsuits against builders. The boards then steered legal and construction repair work to co-conspirators."

Replace the homeowners associations with unions, and you have the standard Mafia scams of the 40s and 50s.

A lot of holes in the desert, and a lot of problems are buried in those holes. But you gotta do it right. I mean, you gotta have the hole already dug before you show up with a package in the trunk. Otherwise, you're talking about a half-hour to forty-five minutes worth of digging. And who knows who's gonna come along in that time? Pretty soon, you gotta dig a few more holes. You could be there all farkin' night.

So this guy stuffed HOA boards with ringers in order to make HOA boards more corrupt? They weren't corrupt enough for his taste?

I'd hate to be an employee working at Starbucks when this guy came in.

Employee: Here's your coffee, sir
Lawyer: Gah! This is awful! It tastes like burnt dirt.
Employee: I'm so sorry, I'll make you another one.
Lawyer: Add some poop to it.
Employee: What?
Lawyer. You heard me. Add some poop to it. It doesn't taste bad enough. It needs poop.
Employee: Uh, sir we don't-
Lawyer: Don't tell me what do you don't do. I'll pay fifteen of my friends to get fake jobs here, and we'll crap in EVERY DAMN CUP OF COFFEE we make. Because that's how we roll here in Vegas.

Corruption here is rampant. The Attorney General has recently paused an investigation into fraudulent foreclosures and title transfers after finding 25,000 cases from just 2 people at one title company. There's more scammers to arrest than investigators and officers can handle.

It's not that they weren't corrupt (enough). It's that the old boards weren't sending the free money to *his* friends.

seriously, always have a minimum two holes in two favorite areas ready and waiting. there's no excuse not to be prepared.buy a few small bottles of drain cleaner (lye) each time you shop to squirrel away, handy when needed. away goes troubles, dissolves the brain.

He's a federal witness to a scheme that goes much higher than him, an illegal scheme dedicated to fleece large amounts of money for nearly nothing.

After it is revealed that he may co-operate, he just happens to get beaten?

I might have an overactive imagination but that is my hypothesis.

Listen, anytime somebody makes a crack about labor - I'm going off. There's been too much bad mouthing unions lately. The same folks who deride the unions forget that they have a 40 hour week, insurance, workman's comp, unemployment, weekends (1938 Fair Labor Standards Act), holidays, minimum wage, child labor laws, and many other things that their heroes "the job creators" would likely snuff out as quickly as possible if (and when) they could.

I'm sick of it. Same stupid crap spewing out of their collective gobs.

To recap for you:
If you do not work a (60) hour work week without week-ends off you have the labor unions to thank. If your child is not working in a factory you have the labor unions to thank. If your employer provides medical insurance you have the labor unions to thank. If you are female who wants equal pay for equal work you have the labor unions to thank. If you have taken advantage of the Family and Medical Leave Act to take care of your newborn you have the labor unions to thank.

And... GTFO, right-wing shills. Thanks.

Amen. Good thing, though, that if you have the right connection, you can "rent" a backhoe for pretty cheap. That cuts down on the manual labor and the time involved.
Although, if you're doing it right, you'll already be off a road that nobody is coming down for a very long time. There's lots of old mining trails between US-6 and I-80, about 25-30,000 square miles, that haven't been traveled on but a handful of times in decades. Just don't take any electronics and make sure to pay in cash.

Whoa, calm down sparky. Unions and the mafia had a really, really close cooperation in the past, just look at Jimmy Hoffa. The mafia had a lot of rackets, including police, local businesses, casinos - and stating that there was a connection with those groups doesn't mean your against them. That's ludicrous.

The rise of organized labor at the start of the 20th century was one of the great things to happen in this country. To acknowledge that some unseemly elements took advantage of it, and of workers' relative weakness to the powers that be, doesn't disparage what they did, or the importance of unions.

/ Involved with the political side of our union here, so definitely not anti-union.

Hoffa did what he had to do and he paid the piper. Unions have to have political influence, and sometimes have to (just like in politics) make strange bed fellows. We all know that Hoffa disappeared, and that known mobsters may have been responsible for his disappearance, but the problem here is that unions keep getting painted with the same broad brush; corrupt, mobsters, strong arm tactics. It's just like saying all politicians are corrupt, or all corporations are evil. Does that make sense?

The fact that unions represent labor, and "eat into PROFIT" is why today, we have so many narrow minded assholes deriding unions. It's the rich and powerful that have poisoned the well about unions in America, and that's just wrong. It's oppressive.

Anyway... carry on with the relevant topic regarding the beating of that old gutter snipe. Sorry for the thread jack.

2011-11-17 07:38:52 PM
So, let's see if I've got this right:

Federal Investigation targets "lawyers, judges and police officers."
This dork lawyer is the first one to cop a plea (hence he gets the best deal when the heads start to roll)
The dork lawyer and his buddies were taking over HOAs and then suing the building contractors via their other buddies' law firms (PROFIT!)
Now the lawyer, his lawyer buddies, their law firms, and the HOAs are going to get sucked down the FBI's drain.
The lawyer gets a beatdown probably by thugs hired by either the HOAs, his "buddies", or possibly some of the contractors who have been paying through the nose and want some street justice.

I'm not seeing any major downsides here, really.

Growing up in a blue collar family with many union members from various trades as uncles and cousins, I heard them say many times that the unions went too far.

I have an example from here in Vegas that chaps me just a bit. When my teamster neighbor did a local move in town, he hired union folks for the first day, then home depot parking lot types to finish up later. Told me how huge the cost was on the first day. This is the guy that has a "work union" sticker on his truck. Seems the union wage is great until you have to pay it.

On the other hand, I now have family members that work in non union companies that have good benefits, but I realize the threat of unions coming in might make the company willing to do what it takes to keep them out..
