How would you like to be on a flight where the pilot couldn't figure out how to operate the bathroom door?

Thus is the state of modern air transportation. Aristocrats!

Its been more than 10 years, and we are still in this goddamned panicked state. Bin Laden is fish food miles under the sea, and yet he somehow still won.

When the whole success of your foreign policy is the death of OBL, why are you shocked?

A spokesman for Chatauqua said police talked to the passenger and quickly established there had been a big misunderstanding, the New York Post reported.

Well, at least they handled it the right way.

Was Obama responsible for the chicken little panicking for the 7 years before he was president?

Unlike pretty much every other instance of panicked overreaction to middle-eastern people on planes recently, I can understand why the co-pilot could reasonably worry if something like this happened.

/of course, it could all have been solved if they'd just sent a farking flight attendant to talk to the him

You would have to ask the relatives of the 3,000 Americans that died in 2001. Otherwise, I get a kick out of the people here that crow about OBL getting snuffed as the cornerstone of his foreign policy success.

Yes, freaking the fark out over nothing when someone was just trying to help because they happen to be brown and foreign was EXACTLY the right thing to do. Let's applaud that they didn't hold him for long.

Dumbass.

I wouldn't say he won. I am a total wuss and even I would go full "Let's Roll" if something happened on a flight. We are the largest economy in the world, with the bench mark currency, and he is, as you say, fish food. I think we're ahead.

The trampling of the average American's rights can always be overlooked when a smaller subset's rights are trampled worse. We need the specter of murderous brown people to allow this to happen to allow us to overlook we're all in the same boat.

2011-11-17 02:26:25 PM
Frankly, if the captain left the flight deck and *ANYBODY* other than the captains voice was screaming and demanding to be let in, I'd have done the same thing. That's the whole point of the procedures in place when one of the pilots leaves the flight deck (I'm not going to go into the actual procedure here).

And what is the FO going to do, let Mr. Mideast Accent fly the plane while he goes to extract the captain from the crapper?

I think "handled it the right way" refers to not dragging the guy off to some undisclosed location.

Dude with a thick accent telling me the pilot locked himself in the bathroom? Fark no I'm not letting the dude in the cockpit. Co-pilot did the right thing.

That would be the 3000 people who heard their President say that he didnt know or care where the man who murdered their loved ones was just six months after the murder? Gotcha...

So what were the cabin crew doing the whole time?

2011-11-17 02:28:40 PM
Where in the hell was the cabin crew during this fiasco? Typically there is at least one of the at the front of the plane. Were they all in the back or something? Locked in the other lavs? Was coffee and trash service more important than getting the pilot out of the bathroom?

No, the RIGHT way to handle it would have been for the copilot to continue circling until the plane ran out of fuel and crashed.

Then we could blame the terr-rists.

Doesn't make sense. The plane is on approach to LGA at 10,000 feet and the captain decides to leave the cockpit?

IF that's true, the guy should be disciplined for reasons other than the stupid stunt.

Yeah, I meant the police handled their end the right way. Co-pilot overreacted a little.

Also this. Middle eastern guy should have just gotten a sky waitress to talk to the co-pilot.

The airline is a regional carrier and the plane was probably a smallish jet or turbo-prop with NO cabin attendants, just pilots. Check out their fleet

that's what I was thinking. The poor passengers couldn't piss because the staff must have all locked themselves in the bathrooms.

The guy with the accent was probably saying "I demand you land now pilot or no, I'm about to piss myself, they gave me a full can of ginger ale! A FULL CAN!!!!"

Rather surprised this didn't happen:
*plane lands*
*commandos storm the plane*
Pilot:Nah, everything's cool, I forgot how to work a door
Commando:Is that the guy who was banging on the door?
Pilot: Yeah, I told him to,so eveything's coo-
Commando:Target verified!
*POP POP POP*
Commando:Tango down. You're all going to be okay folks!

[a police officer pulls Peter over in his car]
Police Officer: License and reg... hey, aren't you the guy who found out he's part black?
Peter Griffin: Yes I am.

Peter Griffin: But this is my car.
Police Officer: Suspect becoming beligerent.
Peter Griffin: Wha...
Police Officer: Officer down.

Crew 3 (2 pilots + flight attendant)

According to this thread on airliners.net, this flight would have had one flight attendant. Apparently it is standard procedure for the flight attendant to wait in the cockpit when one of the pilots has to take a leak or whatever, in order to open the door while the other guy flies the plane. I'd imagine it's also so the pilot can get back in if the copilot becomes incapacitated during this time.

Seems kind of stupid to have a door latch mechanism that locks when it fails. Engineers are SMRT!

Yeah, killing bin Laden is such a minor success. If Obama had invaded a country just because he could, THEN Americans would be braver in the face of danger.

Keep farking that narrative, chicken.
