Why is that baby glowing red? I think he's about to explode and take out Megaton.

Lando Lincoln: Why is that baby glowing red? I think he's about to explode and take out Megaton.

Haven't had any kids, I take it.

Also, the idea of naming him Dovahkiin Jospeh or something is brilliant... his friends can just call him DJ and be none the wiser.

Shifty bastards!

That's exactly why I would've done it. Free Fallout for life. I wonder if DLC is included?

So for basically $1000 bucks they named their kid something that will get him made fun of for the rest of his life.

Not a bad deal. Many parents do this for free.

When the kid's older, he can have playdates with all the kids named Anakin and Frodo.

So is this Skyrim game good enough for me to finally upgrade from Betrayal at Krondor?

There is no game good enough to "upgrade" from Betrayal at Krondor... It is however worth a distraction until you get back to BaK.

As names go, Dovahkiin isn't that bad. Better than some of the name yourself/your kid contests some places do.

And I second the notion that his middle name is Joseph so he can go by DJ.

2011-11-17 12:39:38 PM
I hate parents like this. Change your own damn name, don't curse your kid because you made a bet/want some TV time (I'm looking at you dad of Espn).

Duck_of_Doom: When the kid's older, he can have playdates with all the kids named Anakin and Frodo.

Maybe Nic Cage will let him play with little Kal-El.

I'm not far enough into the game to have known that Dovahkiin would end up being the player's title. Thanks for the spoiler.

I figure they'd just call him D'oh! for short once they have to squeeze that moniker into those little squares on enough enrollment forms.

I vote to turn this into the new Official Fark Skyrim thread!

Anyway to resurrect Lydia? I want a posse of minions to follow me around, she died before I found the "no friendly fire" console command.

Here's a weird thing that happened to me, I was killing a dragon and accidently attacked a named character Avendra(?) on the road outside of Ivarsbald (right next to the throat of the world). Next thing I know, Ivarsbald attacks me. I leave, level up and pick up the "bribe" perk. Go back, guards take me to Riften? What the hell is that about?

On the other topic, I wouldn't name my kid after a video game, unless it's a real name first (like zelda, cecil, etc). Why? I have idea if the kid is going to be a nerd like me, they could become a jock, cheerleader, accountant, doctor, etc. They may hate video games and fantasy! It's my hobby, not theirs.

Dude, it's one of the very the first things you learn in the main quest and it's mentioned in every single review of the game as well as all of the preview info that's been coming out for months. It's as much as a spoiler as telling someone that one of Harry Potter's friends is named Ron.

I hate spoilers, too, but this isn't going to ruin the game for you.

I was named Braden (the non-idiotic spelling) before it was "cool" (b. 1981)

Never got made fun of for it, but stupid people misspelled and mispronounced it for most of my childhood

a sub in 3rd grade once tried to tell me that I was spelling my own name wrong, as they thought I was supposed to be "Branden"... [facepalm.jpg]

So when is someone going to bring the original BaK into the 21st century? I haven't paid full price on release day for a game in the last decade, but I would for a modern BaK. Keep the original story, the map, the puzzles, everything exactly the same, just upgrade the graphics and some of the audio. I would wait in line for that.

It would have to be Gordon Freeman [Enter last name here] for it to count. Chell would be nice though. And she can say its Shelly but spelt with a C.

Yay new skyrim thread.

I was commenting to a friend how I'm continually surprised at the outstanding quality of the quests. Rather varied and fun. My favorite (and most surprising) so far is the beat-a-guy-at-a-drinking-contest miscellaneous quest. I won't spoil the rest of it, because it's frankly too epic.

By the time that kid is old enough to care, no one is going to remember Skyrim, and he will have a unique and cool name. As noted, they'll call him DJ, anyway.

I did that quest last night right before I went to bed. Amazing questline, loved every minute of it. I even had it in my misc log for over 20 hours before I finally decided to do it.

I found him on the road between Riverwood and Whiterun on the first day of play.

I got him to say three things, but I can't remember what, and he said he was bored with me or something and ran off.

the name really isnt that too ridiculous compared to the shiat that people come up with (looking at you kevin smith) fifteen years from now, when people ask him how he got his name, he can refer to it as a (obscure? - i dont know, i havent played it yet) name from a classic or old game (depending on the test of time)

(parentheses are the new slashies)

Game companies would see this happening more often if they would learn to stop naming characters ridiculous, unpronounceable, unrealistic garbage.

Jesus, guys, spend 2 minutes on Behind the name's random generator and at least you'll come up with something that a human tongue can enunciate.
