I am outraged!

There were no topless Brazilians in the article!

Obviously they haven't mastered the anti-piranha bicycle kick.

♫ I want to lie, shipwrecked and comatose,
Drinking fresh mango juice.
Piranhafish shoals, nibbling at my toes,
Fun, fun, fun, in the sun, sun, sun ♫

Camel-toeless Brazilians make me sad.

City officials said the beach will remain open because it's an important draw for tourists in Brazil's Pantanal region, known for its ecotourism.

Like this guys honesty. Hell no we are not going to shut down the beach, if people are stupid enough to jump in piranha infested water. FARK EM!

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome back to our stage: "The Toeless Brazilians"

Yeah, see this is why I only swim in man-made pools. Natural waters tend to have various forms of life that have various reasons to maim/kill us.

2011-11-17 12:34:14 PM
If that was in the US, the beach would be closed. I like that they have not closed the beach. You still have a choice. So, if you've got an extra toe, or you wanna wear smaller shoes, go for a swim.

2011-11-17 12:35:08 PM
Officials have put up large signs warning swimmers about the piranhas, reading in blood red letters: "Attention swimmers. Area at risk of piranha attacks. Danger!"

¡Cuidado! ¡Hay piranha!!!!

This why the piranhas and I have an agreement.

I stay out of their territorial waters, they stay off my lawn.

Did no one read the article?

Headline: Piranhas bite toes off swimmers in Brazil

Article: "I saw that I had lost the tip of my toe."

Also from the article: "The worst is that the attacks are in shallow water, next to the bank."

Seems to me that you're better off being attacked near the bank as opposed to way out in the deep water...

Maybe it's just some local fisherman... out for a pleasure cruise...

2011-11-17 02:18:35 PM
Solution: Put a cow in the areas that the tourists swim in. When the piranhas attack the cow, everybody should know to get out of the water. Piranhas just love to skeletonize cows.

2011-11-17 02:38:09 PM
I kept some piranhas some years ago until they died from neglect.

They acted like normal fish - easily spooked, swam in a school.

I was moving them one day into a bucket so I can clean the tank. I caught one with a little net, and he started thrashing around. I didn't want him to hurt himself to so I grabbed him with one hand to settle him down. Big mistake. He turned in my hand and bit me. Took a huge chunk out. That's when I realized these things can really do some serious damage to a person if he was in the water with these things around.

They grow up to about 1 foot. Mine were only about 4 inches before they died.

Piranha are only dangerous if they're starving or excited by blood/thrashing. You can swim in the Amazon itself and they'll swim away from you. like any sensible fish when it sees a large potential predator.

And predators they have. Caiman, boto, arowana, otters, and large birds feast on piranha.
