I would not put it past the NBA to fail to have an NBA season but have an All-Star game anyway.

And Yao Ming would still get voted in as a starter.

At this point, since the players union has disbanded, couldn't they have teams of scabs ala Keanu Reeves in "The Replacements?"

Basketball is still alive and well in Lexington, Kentucky - with the NBA out of the picture, the Kentucky Wildcats are the best team in the world right now.

Best amateur team? Probably. Best team? Not so much.

So Cal has got the boys primed up for another big dose of Calipari Style Tournament Failure? Has he added free throw practice to the team's practices this season?

In fairness, free throws seems like something that players should be doing on their own time - practice should be for things that require coordination amongst teammates and executing plays (I assume there are limited hours where they're allowed to be "at practice".)

What pct of scoring do you figure is done from the line? I bet it is significant which means there should probably be some time allotted for it during actual practice. What you are saying is that practice should not involve shooting of any kind, with the exception of that which is done at the end of a play being practiced, as players can do that on their own time.

You still think college sport is 'amateur'. How quaint.

Oh, is THAT why their players are out until all hours the night before a game so they can get hit by a drunk driver?

No, what I'm saying is that free throws can easily be done by yourself. Shooting of any kind is virtually always going to come with a hand in your face or requires a game-type situation. And obviously you'd do that in a game situation.

But free throws require no interaction with anyone else. They are done all by your lonesome. You don't need someone to help you work on rebounding. You don't need someone to pass you the ball in a certain position. You don't need to know if your moves are going to be effective against a real defense on a free throw, because there is no defense on a free throw.

If there's something that can probably be omitted from practice and you can say "hey, do this sh*t on your free time," it's free throws.

Maybe it's because I don't care about the NBA and never have, but the lockout has not effected me in one way.

This sucks. Orlando was really looking forward to this season and the all star game. With Dwight's impending departure, we are heading toward a Cleveland 2.0 (but not as shiatty of a town,)

They just built a brand new, beautiful arena and now it's sitting empty with a couple of concerts here and there. It has really revitalized downtown and now all the vendors nearby as well as the employees of the arena are SOL. In college I would have never crossed the other side of the highway but now it's pretty nice since they pushed the shiatty neighborhoods out of the way.

The best thing about the All Star game is that it would have been fun to go out and see all the players, famous folks. Orlando has a fun nightlife and it's contained to a relatively small area so it's impossible not to see famous people mingling around with all the peons. This isn't South Beach or LA where only the elite get into .

/bummer for everyone
