Damn libs. If they'd just let the baggers drag us into debt default to make Obama a 1-term President there wouldn't be any drama!

As the Country Burns

... Congress is focusing on the glacier that might hit us in 20 years.

Continued defects will destroy the economy.
Cutting spending will destroy the economy.
Raising taxes will destroy the economy.

It's all about putting off the day of reckoning while the rich loot the country. They'll be living in luxury while your children starve.

Jokes on them, then. I can't afford to have children!

The best thing the "super"committee can do is nothing. Let the disastrous Bush tax cuts expire, and a huge part of this "crisis" goes away. Spend some money paying people to fix infrastructure, and another huge part of it goes away. Stick with austerity, and things get worse.

Beemer: Let the disastrous Bush tax cuts expire, and a huge part of this "crisis" goes away.

Huge? Not really. Bush tax cuts are about $300 Billion of a 1.3 Trillion problem.

Spend some money paying people to fix infrastructure, and another huge part of it goes away.

Fix the deficit by spending more? Hmmmm. Some of this I can agree with, but there is no gurantee that a generic 'fix infrastructure' will have a positive ROI in the next 3 to 5 years. Some of it will and some of it won't.

In any case, it will not account for the remaining $1 Trillion of our little problem.

Eliminating 23% of the problem in just one step isn't huge?

Nope, but I would consider something this big to be a good start.

Bleh.. the country isn't in danger of anything. If you listen to the media they make it sound like we're Spain/Greece on the brink of bankruptcy.

America has PLENTY of money. Even if we went full retard and fully monetized the debt (read: printed money causing inflation) it wouldn't suck *that* bad. In fact, most people don't realize this but the primary way we paid the bills before the income tax was monetization.. the only "tax" was inflation.

Nope, that yellow line is all rainbows and unicorns. Noting to be worried about at all.
