We wouldn't have a tire yard, or inside roller rink.

Or a shiny Bigfoot trap.
It's not the mayor's fault that the stadium collapsed!

We can't bust heads like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere - like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say.

Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

You are a partisan hack. Know how I know? Because in the first article about this event, what she was doing there was clearly described:

From this article greenlit yesterday: Rainey, a community activist since the '60s, decided to walk by the protest on her way to a transportation meeting in the Northgate neighborhood of Seattle. As she told the Stranger, Seattle's alt-weekly paper, "Cops shoved their bicycles into the crowd ... If it had not been for my Hero (Iraq Vet Caleb) I would have been down on the ground and trampled."

So, what have we learned?

1) That this 84 year old woman was NOT part of the protest. She was nearby and on her way elsewhere. The worst she was guilty of was curiosity about what was going on.
2) That this 84 year old woman probably has at least somewhat limited mobility, as indicated by her fear of being thrown to the ground and trampled by the actions of the police.
3) That you could not be bothered to do basic background research before condemning her, and attempting to justify the actions of the police.
4) That you think that it is even possible to justify a police officer pepper spraying a frail 84 year old woman who is clearly not capable of offering resistance to the police, let alone a physical threat.

We've had good conversations and bad ones, EWreckedSean, but this is truly contemptible on your part. Shame on you.

Now, the only question is, are you going to recognize how shameful your knee-jerk partisan reaction was and own up to it, and think about what that means about your worldview more generally, or are you going to double down and insist that the police were justified in using pepper spray on an 84 year old woman.

I don't care if to you she is a faceless nonentity that is part of some organization you dislike because it threatens cherished ideological assumptions in your worldview. I do not give even the slightest of farks. Basic human empathy should be enough for you to understand why this is completely unacceptable. The ethical and moral standing of a society is determined by how it treats its most vulnerable members.

To that cop she was a nearly helpless old woman standing near him that he chose to pepper spray. That cop deserves to lose his job and be summarily tried for assault & battery and have his ass tossed in jail for as long as the sentencing will allow.

I still am unsure what to think about all this Occupy stuff.

I laughed at the tea party and their sillyness, stupid misspelled signs, and dumb stuff like 'get your government out of my medicare' crap. I was also confused by the Taxed Enough Already slant, which is odd since (R) or (D) doesnt really matter, they all raise taxes, and (R) seems to like big government just fine.

Then came the Occupy stuff. So I read everything about how the Great Depression happened and look at the parallels of today and it is concerning. I am not one of the 1%, or even close.. I went to a community college because i could not afford a 'party school'. I also didnt want the huge loan. I was able to get a job in my field and I've worked my ass off to get where I'm at. (which is a normal house in suburban generica).

Who the hell am I supposed to support? I agree with some of their cause, but I'm not sure this is the way to go. I also stand by the Police if its about keeping the few jackasses in line that spoil it for the actual protestors.

Finally, I dont have much love for a bunch of hipster douchebags that have iPhones and $800 cameras but are mad that they took a $80,000 loan to attend college and major in windchimes..

meh..

I really had no point. I guess I'll STFU and GBTW.

Can you describe for me an example of an "unlawful order to disperse" from a police officer that would be okay to ignore? I was kinda boggled to hear this argument a few weeks ago. I was visiting a buddy, and his MIL was there biatching about the Occupy Denver protesters. Her daughter is a Denver cop, and has been talking about how much overtime this city has been having to pay during the protests. MIL was outraged about the protesters costing the city so much money, and was saying they should just shut up and go home. In the interests of not kicking over a hornets nest in my buddies living room I just left it, but I really wanted to ask her how she came to the conclusion that it was the protester's fault that the city decided to send every available officer to the park, and keep them there for a few days.

KiltedBastich:

Look up what partisan hack means. I think these protests are moronic. That's not partisanship, that's ideology.

So, what have we learned?

1) That this 84 year old woman was NOT part of the protest. She was nearby and on her way elsewhere. The worst she was guilty of was curiosity about what was going on.

So what have we learned. You are making it out like she was just walking by and got caught up in this. She specifically was down in the middle of the protest where the protesters were scuffling with cops. If she didn't mean to be, I feel bad for her, but why does the blame fall on the cops and not on the protesters? The cops weren't the ones in the street blocking traffic and refusing to move. The cops didn't cause the confrontation.

Pepper spray was deployed only against subjects who were either refusing a lawful order to disperse or engaging in assaultive behavior toward officers

2) That this 84 year old woman probably has at least somewhat limited mobility, as indicated by her fear of being thrown to the ground and trampled by the actions of the police.

Well then pretty silly to get right down in the middle of this mess.

3) That you could not be bothered to do basic background research before condemning her, and attempting to justify the actions of the police.

I read the article. It mentions nothing of her being an innocent bystander.

4) That you think that it is even possible to justify a police officer pepper spraying a frail 84 year old woman who is clearly not capable of offering resistance to the police, let alone a physical threat.

You are acting like somebody saw a 84 year old woman, ran up, and sprayed pepper spray in her face, instead of her being in the middle of a crowd fighting the cops who got sprayed.

Now, the only question is, are you going to recognize how shameful your knee-jerk partisan reaction was and own up to it, and think about what that means about your worldview more generally, or are you going to double down and insist that the police were justified in using pepper spray on an 84 year old woman.

Again, if she accidentally got herself caught up in it, I feel bad for her. But you have protesters blocking traffic and scuffling with police. I don't much feel bad they used pepper spray.

I don't care if to you she is a faceless nonentity that is part of some organization you dislike because it threatens cherished ideological assumptions in your worldview.
