Just about anywhere on Chalmers...if my car stops running...I would get out and start running. Its every man, woman, and child for themselves in east Detroit.

Since this is in Detroit, the father probably had no insurance, no registration and probably not even a valid driver's license. Coz in Detroit everyone laughs at you if you give your money to the state.

Just right there is a few thousand dollar ticket. Add to the fact that maybe he was drunk, that's five to six thousand dollars (Michigan has a few thousand dollar driver mandatory responsibility class for people who caught drunk-driving). If he had a license and insurance, then it means suspension of license and higher insurance rates.

Running away and coming back sober and with good advice was probably the best way to handle this for him.

Heard an interesting fact about my fair city today: since 2003 more people have been killed in Detroit than US servicemen (and women) in Afghanistan. It's safer to be in the American army in Kabul than the D over that period.

Somebody driving down from Imlay for crack/smack wouldn't surprise me...but Flint is just down the road. I knew a guy who went to CMU and got hooked on smack. He would drive down from Mt. Pleasant to the D every other day to hook up. He's dead now.

Where he was there is a big string of drug houses specializing in pot for white suburban folk. Between Chandler and the expressway caters to visitors not residents.

Now, if he'd abandoned them in Des Moines, it would have been a different story.

Good catch. I was going to say that substance abuse knows no racial bounds and even though it seemed likely, given the area, the guy was black it could just as easily have been a white guy. But there you go, it was a white guy.
