The Class Action Fairness Act was supposed to base lawyers' compensation on value to customers rather than face value of coupons. There's an option to take cash so that may not matter in the present case. Either way, the best option is to ignore the lawsuit and not waste your time collecting the $.75 per class member (divided by the fraction who do waste their time).

Lawyers' compensation in these cases should be bounded by a multiple of the benefit to a typical class member.

Meh...clicking on the link in the email didn't cost me a dime. I'll take what I can get.

No kidding - the settlement says the lawyers get $5,000.00 per person who signs up.

Doesn't.
How will Class Counsel be paid?
Answer:

Class Counsel will ask the Court to award attorneys' fees of up to 25% of the Settlement Fund, plus costs that Class Counsel estimate at up to $1.7 million. The cash component of the Settlement will pay attorneys' fees and costs.

Who are the Class Representatives?
Answer:

The class representatives in this case are Bryan Eastman, Amy Latham, Melanie Salvi, Stan Magee, Michael Orozco, Andrea Resnick, Liza Sivek, Michael Weiner, and Scott Caldwell.

What will the Class Representatives receive?
Answer:

Class Counsel will ask the Court to award $5,000 for each of the Class Representatives.

The lawyers are getting ~$7 million plus another possible 2 million. The Class Representatives I assume are the people who instigated the lawsuit.

Meh. If the lawyers aren't paid a significant amount for bringing cases like these, then companies won't give a shiat if they damage millions of people at $3 apiece, since they know nobody is gonna go after them for $3. If anything, lawyers aren't paid enough in these cases.

So far I've been in a class action lawsuit against Capital One, BoA, Briggs and Stratton, and now Netflix/Walmart...

... I've never seen a dime.

The Briggs and Stratton lawnmower suit settled last year I think. I think I got $13 and change or something from it. (woo)

And there is still the Costco gas one where the class got $0 and the lawyers got 6 figures. Must have been some campaign contributions for the judge on that one.

That's because the point of suits like that aren't to reimburse the class, they're to deter the companies from diffusely damaging society. The reimbursement to each class member wouldn't be worth the gas to drive down to small claims court. That's why in most of the suits where the reimbursement would be negligible they give the majority to a non-profit of some kind.

I want a "donate mine to charity" option. Odds are I forget about the 7 dollar WalMart gift card I get out of this deal come tax time, but of course its on file and the IRS pings me.

Does Wally World do free shipping from their site? I don't shop at Wally World and it is out of my way to get there. Rather not burn gas for 10 bucks of crap. If I can make them ship me a strand of Xmas lights or something for free though I'd go for it.
