Lobsters are amazing creatures. They don't suffer from the aging process like we do, they only get bigger and stronger with age. Let's hope this lobster lives a good long time.

Be interesting to know how often this happens and what causes this sort of mutation...but then it's The Sun.

whatshisname: Be interesting to know how often this happens and what causes this sort of mutation...but then it's The Sun.

Wiki:

An estimated one in 2-5 million lobsters is blue. A genetic mutation causes a blue lobster to produce an excessive amount of a particular protein.[13] The protein and a red carotenoid molecule known as astaxanthin combine to form a blue complex known as crustacyanin, giving the lobster its blue color.

When I was working at a retaraunt in Montauk one summer, the boat brought in its lobster catch. They found a nice-sized blue one. They were going to sell it to some millionaire diner for beaucoup bucks, but I dropped it off the dock instead. Everyone wondered where it went. My good deed for the day.

I forget which Farker blew my mind with the pictures of bicolor lobsters and even bi-gender ones, but I'll never forget how awesome it was. So, uh, thanks.

This is definitely the most blue one I've seen!

/Maybe I should start collecting pictures

Fair enough. But,at the time, I was told it was a one-in-a-million genetic trait. I am not a 99%er, and wasn't looking to stick it to the man. I just thought someone's 30-minute dinner wasn't worth a contribution to genocide.

Genocide? It's a genetic mutation that, although rare, occurs frequently enough that we keep finding it in the wild. Chances are that your little buddy died of being eaten due to his pigmentation long before he was able to mate.
