The "dirty hippies" stereotype exists because there are dirty hippies out there, and they've been encountered enough times by the mainstream populace that they've become part of the collective knowledge base, just like sleazy used car salesmen and corrupt politicians.

Claiming that the OWS protestors are "dirty hippies" based on a stereotype is intolerant and devoted to your own opinions and prejudices. You prejudge the protesters based on the stereotype that the protestors are dirty hippies. You obviously display animosity toward those of differing beliefs by calling them dirty.

I don't prejudge the protesters based on the "dirty hippies" stereotype. I make jokes. This is a humor-based website, and at least one person got the joke I made.

I have a close friend who is involved in the Occupy Tulsa group and he attends their marches. I talk to him and try to get a handle on their aims. He is very articulate, and doesn't fit the "dirty hippie" stereotype at all. I wouldn't ask him for his ideas about the movement if I didn't want to know more.

To be fair, lice can occur in the cleanest of environments and can be damn hard to get rid of. My kids got it from school, and they're clean kids. We ended up having to shave their heads, which was tough on the girls.
