"Insofar as she's a representative [of the College Republicans], maybe it shouldn't be said, but she's made a positive statement in a way, " said Cassie Wright, the group's vice president.

"I don't really see anything wrong with it," Wright added. "It's just a personal comment, not representative of any group. Just freedom of speech, you know?"

Positive as in... her advice was not to do it?

Ah, more eliminationist humor from conservatives. How completely unsurprising.

2011-11-16 05:49:10 PM
There sure are some loathsome people out there.

*shrug*

It's sincerely dickish and unfunny, but whatev's.

I seem to remember things like this being said almost every day about Bush.

I'm sure she'll have fun with the Secret Service when they call on her. I'll bet they'll even laugh when she reiterates what a 'joke' it was (not really).

This shows that while you have the right to free speech, it doesn't absolve you of the consequences when you say something REALLY stupid.

Haha

Remember, no matter how tempting it might be to bash this moron's head in with a hammer, don't do it! She needs to go down as a reminder that conservatives are evil people.

See, wasn't that a FUNNY joke???

Wait, no, it wasn't. Nor was her statement. Nor was it positive. Nor will this giggling idiot ever understand why.

She isn't much of a historian. Obama has to start sucking more than 30 other presidents behind him in the ranks.

"Just joking" is the new "overzealous Republican staffer."

2011-11-16 07:42:45 PM
Pierce, the president of the College Republicans at UT Austin, told ABC News the comment was a "joke" and that the "whole [shooting incident] was stupid." Giggling, she said that an attempted assassination would "only make the situation worse."

This is what conservatives believe counts as humor.

2011-11-16 07:43:12 PM
So there's some kind of official GOP program to call any stupid comment a "joke" now.

Assassinate the President? Joke. Sure.

2011-11-16 07:43:23 PM
Remember, we probably shouldn't frogmarch all Republicans to the guillotines.

What? It's a joke!

I'm amazed at how a couple of those polls have W above average.

pretty clearly black humor, and it's a damn shame when a stupid comment by a nobody becomes national news just because it can be taken wrong, regardless of politics. fark the sensationalist media.

2011-11-16 07:44:33 PM
It's blatantly obvious that when she said "shoot" she meant "photoshoot". I wish people would stop trying to twist these clever jokes and making them out to be something more sinister.

don't shoot Obama. We need him to go down in history as the WORST president we've EVER had! "

Ah, Texas pride trying to salvage their miserable failure boy GWB who is regarded by many historians as among the worst presidents ever.

See thread below about Victoria Jackson's Derp-a-Thon. Xenophobia and murder have apparently many outlets in the GOP.

Note to all Republicans: the definition of "joke" is NOT "something I said that I wish I didn't say and I don't want to be held accountable for"

Actually, I thought this was kind of funny.

Also, conservatives are evil people, but not because they routinely use violent metaphors. Rather, their fixation on violent metaphors just reveals their barely suppressed character for violence. Your typical conservative is a depressive episode away from Jim Adkissoning a Unitarian church.

At 2:29 p.m. ET, UT's Lauren E. Pierce wrote: "Y'all as tempting as it may be, don't shoot Obama. We need him to go down in history as the WORST president we've EVER had! #2012."

Republicans NEED to have Obama be the worst president. They NEED it. From McConnell down to College Republicans, it's a systematic NEED to make him the worst president.

I'm sure that doesn't say anything about their greater desire to "lead".

It would play into their "you know what's above a glass ceiling? a shoe polishing station" narrative nicely.

Somebody halp but isn't that one of a handful of things we *don't* have the right to say and is not covered by freedom of speech?

Also, I hated Bush but I never wanted him assassinated 1) Regardless of how you feel about him I assume that having your leader shot kind of throws your country into chaos 2) President Cheney

Dunno. Honestly I don't, and feel free to call me on it, but I assumed you had every freedom to do it but also have the right to have the Secret Service up your ass investigating you for a long time to see if a) you are trying to incite others to do it or b) actually planning to do it.

I am a former College Republican. And yes, they are typical unfunny Conservative idiots, with the exuberance of youth thrown in to boot.

Nothing CRs do is funny. Nothing. Luckily my chapter was interested in drinking and partying. But some of the the chapters were dead serious about this shiat. At one State meeting they kept trying to bring up Abortion resolutions. We countered with dick jokes.

Today's CRs have the same "Conservatism is a endangered species on College Campuses" kind of shiat that I saw all over in my day. Jesus, just drop the stupid politics and party, for farks sake.

I'm beginning to think that the conservative inability to be funny is actually a brilliant defense strategy. When you can claim that anything you say is just a "joke" you can get away with saying ANYTHING.

This might be the place to bring this up:

Anyone else see the suggested threat in, "Make him a ONE. TERM. PRESIDENT."?

No, not really. I'd have to be looking for a threat to find it there. People say that all the time when running against incumbents.

Well that makes it perfectly acceptable then. One basement dwellers anecdotal evidence that somebody else said something mean about a guy he would never admit voting for because his presidency ended in abject failure.

Ideally, George Washington should have been the worst American president. These people want the exact opposite...
