I predict a logical and well calm debate in this thread.

She's kinda looking like the Joker in that vid. Did she get some new work done to go with her weight loss?

And she's still nuts. But she was cute in the 80s.

I'm guessing a facelift. Sadly, she looked better fat.

Besides, being a mystical Jedi is great, but being an omnipotent Q is even better.

Janeway was the best captain, then Picard, then Adama, then Kirk.

It's not even close. Star Track is the superior outer spacey thingey.

If this goes Star Wars, Leia will passionately kiss Kirk, then we'll find out she's his sister. If this goes Star Trek, Kirk will nail Leia, then she'll die or disappear.

I just watched Shatner's "The Captains" this past weekend and all I can say is this:

1. That was a lot of ego fellatio for everyone involved.

2. Avery Brooks has lost his damned mind

I tend to look at each captain's performance in the context of their character's design and the direction of the show. It's hard to make a true-apples-apples comparison.

Only the first two Star Wars films were great, the others ranged from mediocre to terrible.

But that is because Star Wars is all George Lucas, all the time. George hates his fans and acts like a toddler in regards to it. Even when he gave in and released the original Star Wars on DVD he made the disk in non-anamorphic letterbox on 4:3 - that way everyone can enjoy black bars on all four sides of the film. George is just a prick.

Contrast that with Star Trek which has harnessed some of the best writing talents in the past 50 years. Trek can actually carry an emotional load to it, Star Wars..... not so much.

It's like trying to compare these variables. Is x greater than y? There is no definitive way to tell.

William Shatner looked a lot better than Carrie at 55 years old. She is not aging well, so Star Trek wins!

Isn't it cute how two washed-up actors put their ignorance on display for all their fans to see, in a vain attempt to remain relevant to as wide an audience as possible, as they slowly fade into obscurity?

somemoron: The what-now? I missed this, sadly. Also, why has Avery Brooks lost his mind?

Shatner made a documentary where he goes around interviewing each captain about their experiences, etc etc.
They each talk pretty openly and honestly about being on Star trek, their pasts in theater, etc (the talk with Patrick Stewart was the best and most revealing) but then he gets to Avery Brooks.

He sits at a piano playing random jazz riffs the entire time, not answering a damn thing and just spouting off gibberish as answers.

Shatner says "So, how was it being captain?"
Brooks replies "It is what it is and it was what it was baby! I was there and now I'm here and I've seen God and he looks like music, baby!!"

/I'm paraphrasing, but not far off from the crazy
//He didn't honestly and sincerely answer one question like a normal human being

While I don't exactly agree with your list, it is good to Adama on the list.

Sisko is as good as Picard. Different but equal.

Then it goes
Kirk
Spock
Sulu
Garrett
Pike
Keogh
Terrell
Some gum under the bar at Quark's
Janeway

And ya I have grown up on both franchises. Trek>Wars. Mostly because Lucas is a bigger putz than Bergman and Brana (SP?)

You're all hating on Janeway because she's a woman. There was nothing wrong with her.

Each was a captain best suited for their time. During Kirk's era the, Humans were still new to the scene and there was open war with the Romulans and Klingons. Picard was captain during an era of relative peace (until the borg) so the federation was concentrating on science, exploration, and diplomacy.

1. If you've read any of the Titan novels, where would you put Riker on that list?

2. Brana and his ilk managed to punch holes in the continuity lines big enough for a Starbase to get through, and turned a partial blind eye to it when the fans called them on it. But, to your point, they didn't remake the same episodes 20 times with more SFX so they can sell a new boxset.

Wow... the article was pretty informative... I didn't know that Shatner had a Google+ page.

Star Wars is we can ignore the 3 prequel, Star Trek if we can't.

It's a TIE if we can throw out Voyager and Enterprise.

Janeway second-guessed every decision she made. Sometimes in the same sentence.

I'll add that there are more pron parodies based on Star Trek than Star Wars...

You mean other than her goofy hair, smoker's voice, and inability to act?

She would have made a fine Ms Kitty on Gunsmoke.

//If she had murdered Neelix with her bare hands, then I could at least give her 1 star
