I like that game.

I got it on release day. My first stab at an Elder Scrolls game, and I really am enjoying it. I'm not used to the "you can take everything" part quite yet...

Fallout weened me from that compulsion. Although I still have the mentally talk myself into not picking up a lot of items, especially armor from fallen foes.

My mule (aka Lydia I think) got killed off in Merkath (sp?). Now I'm looking for a second victim, er volunteer. Any ideas where to pick one up? I deliberately switched from heavy armour to light armour just so I can carry more shiat, even though my stats are lower.

Also, that ice troll on the mountain is giving me the shiat fits. I wish Skyrim had the baby nuke launcher like in Fallout.

At least in fallout you can sell most of it, but it's not worth it in Skyrim.

There's an elf archer hanging out in the first town near the wood mill. All you have to do is deliver a false letter for him and he'll follow you around. He can also train you in archery.

Yeah, I initially thought "hey, if I grab enough of these, maybe there's some weird "start a library for orphans" quest or some such.
Then after a few hours of that, I chucked them all right onto a dungeon floor. Damned if I can remember which one either. Hope that doesn't bite me in the ass later.

I picked up a merc early on in one of the early city taverns. I don't remember where, or what her name was, but for 500 gold she will be your biatch.

I tried that. A lot. Maybe I was too low at the time. But I never even got it down to half before I ran out of Magicka and potions. If he dropped something epic it might have been worth trying more, but I'm sure all he had was fat on him.

I went at him with Flame and a poisoned axe at level 7 with a companion who had a two handed sapping axe.

But yeah, he just has fat on him.

Now that's one of the things that's sorta messing with me. The sheer number of ingredients out there. And I still can't figure out which ones make a goddamn health potion. It's fun dumping shiat into an alchemy kit and seeing if you randomly hit on something, but my God I've got a bunch of random crap sitting in a storage trunk.

Any tips on killing dragons if you're primarily a melee fighter kind of guy? I get my ass kicked a lot when it's just flying around.

Heyy a new Skyrim thread.

My favorite thing I've found so far is the Daedric shield that casts ward while you're blocking. Very cool.

No reason not to diversify. Try using lesser ward when it strafes you, using a bow to whittle it down, etc. At the very least put healing in both hands and just take the punishment. Swapping in resist gear helps, as does hiding like a little girl.

Really though, you should get some sort of ranged ability. As far as I can tell the angrier dragons have the ability to one hit KO (at any armor/health level) if they manage to pick you up in their jaws.

It says "50 points," which I think is lesser? It blocks dragon breath and apprentice-level bolts fine, anything angrier and it breaks.

In Oblivion, my friend hired a maid for one of his houses and whenever he came across a skull or some bone, he would pick it up and put it in his inventory and then bring it back to her bedroom.

Months later, my friend took a screen shot of her sitting in her room, waist deep in skulls and bones. She didn't look very happy for some reason.

If it is worth 5x the weight, I pick it up, but if I start getting too much crap on me I switch it to 10x the weight.

I'm mostly archery and stealth with no companions. I'm just going to have to keep spamming health potions when I walk into a grizzly, aren't I? I'm just level 7 right now so if anyone knows a good second spec for me to help me with those situations, let me know. I've been trying to decide what I can do that would take the least amount of skill points away from the other things I want.

One-handed is a natural complement to stealth, since daggers do an absurd amount of backstab damage with that one perk. I went with shield and block, but I actually think dual wielding is a legit way to go that won't dilute your perk spending as much. You'll be fragile but proper application of shouts can get you out of sticky situations.

I saw a video where a guy was sneaking around a bunch of mobs without them seeing him and picking them off one by one with daggers... How do you do that? I don't see anything in sneak that makes you invisible and it didn't look like he was casting invisibility after an attack...

Once you get sneak up to 65 or 70, you're practically invisible in darker rooms. Mine's getting up towards 80 and I can more or less stab someone in the face without them seeing. Also, if you one-shot things, it effectively generates zero noise.

I'm actually pretty impressed with Skyrim's stealth system. Lighting, movement, sight range, equipment, even accidentally knocking something off a table all affect detection.

Eventually I realized that there aren't any puzzles that require me to have plates or shoes in your inventory.

I am playing a Mage...it's a very effective class, especially if you team up with a warrior. I've killed the Ice Troll at level 4.

And there are two things you have to remember: You can't just pick everything up...you will get bogged down. There is an in-game reason why you can carry that much weight.

Big question for those who've played: how do the story and characters fair? The thing I loved most about Morrowind was the fantastic writing and the character development. Oblivion had some of that, but fell short.

How Skyrim pull it off?

I guess I ask because if I'm going to sink money and time into this adventure, I'd like it to be smart.

Really well, there are a lot of different factions and background lore (this takes place about 200 years after Oblivion) and everyone has their own motives and background for what they are doing.

Is hand-to-hand combat (or "unarmed," whatever they call it) still a combat option? I have a strange interest in developing a Batman/Daredevil kind of character. Stealthy, agile, and able to beat men down with my gloved hands.

Pick up (drag) a corpse. The corpse doesn't count against your weight cap. The corpse has unlimited inventory room if you reverse loot it.

Load up on magic restoration potions, health potions, and dual wield a fire spell to take that bastard down. Alternatively get to the town at the base of the mountain, then fast travel to a stable, buy a horse, fast travel back, and ride the horse past it.

I have questions:

In Skyrim, I hear you can buy houses. In the previous Elder Scrolls games that I've played (morrowind, Oblivion), you usually got some kind of house or stronghold to store stuff in as part of a quest line at some point in the game. Now, if you didn';t want to do quests and still wanted some storage, you could always just kill a home-owning NPC and take their house. Can you still do that?

Also, I was watching a buddy play, and I asked him to bring up his character sheet. All I could see were skills and various game achievements. Are there still base stats in the game, like Strength and Willpower?
