What's the infatuation with "Angry Birds"??

It's a knock-off of other, better games.

Man the battery life must be really crap on that...

One of these would be great for Boardroom presentations, consumer use not so much.

I believe they make replaceable films for such touchscreen. Even still, yes, get your damn hands off.

Yea, This.

I'm sorry, but until you find a way to have smudge free, dirt/crap repelling screens, I don't want your grubby little hands touching my screen. Especially if it's a big ass screen that everyone watches. I don't even want to touch my screen, it bugs me being that close to it.

On a related note, there's a bunch of deals going around for this Android tablet (new window)

At $129, it's almost throwaway money, but I was wondering if anyone had experience with this brand. Can't find much around the web, which should be my first warning. Battery life of 3 hours kinda sucks too.

The details on that page are incredibly inconsistent. Is it 2.2 or 2.3? The screen res is pretty low, the touch screen style is the crappy tech. Plus, the price it was showing for me was $379, which it DEFINITELY isn't worth.

I got a Vizio vtab and I'm pretty happy with it. Not the fastest, but it was reasonably cheap wifi only tablet.

Don't waste your money. 3 hours battery life, resistive touchscreen, 256MB RAM are all huge warning signs. If you really want to waste your money on a cheap tablet, a much better option is the Velocity Micro Cruz over on Woot! today for $70.

IMO still a waste of money (better to spend $200 and get something semi-decent), but a better option than the one you linked to.

Yeah, thank you both. After a bit more research, the company offering these tablets probably acquired them from some chinese wholesaler (new window) for cheap, marked up the price to better-tablet levels, and then offered the groupons to make it look like you're getting a super deal. Pretty sure that's illegal, definitely unethical.

I was recently in the Pearl Market in Beijing looking at one of these "iPads". I turned it on and it was clearly Android. When I fired up Angry Birds and tried to shrink the display with multitouch, it became apparent the screen was resistive. At that point, the gal in the booth insisted that wouldn't work because it was "Chinese iPad. Just Chinese"

Ok....

I'm looking forward to the Lenovo A1 as a cheap 7" to carry in my "man bag" when on the road. I got it for $199 on Amazon with shipping included... when they're going to ship is open to question.

i'd rather just have the WiiU approach of a touchscreen controlling what's on the tv with seemless interaction of content between the two

a tv in essence should just be like a painting on a wall where content can be displayed, it shouldn't be the controller too

For a budget tablet, you might want to check out the Kindle fire, or the Nook Tablet (better deal IMHO).
Decent specs and good support for both of these tablets.

Threadjack:

I still don't have any use for a tablet. Other people have done cool things with them I guess, but I just don't get it. After discussing this with my father for months, he gave me a his Galaxy 10.1 (apparently he wants a 7" for portability). It's a slick little machine, but I just don't have much use for it. I guess it'll be handy on flights for entertainment, but that's about all I can think of. I used a list program to make my grocery list, but I knowing me, I'll end up leaving it in the cart when I drive off or it'll be snatched when I'm not looking at the store. I'm thinking about mounting it in one of my kitchen cabinets for convenient recipe look up and stuff, but I'm not sure I want to make that king of permanent modification to my cabinets. Anybody got a good idea?

I can get a pocketEDge Dualbook for cheap, mainly because Entourage quit making them earlier this year, but I wonder if its worth it. Interesting design, can use either side, and there is still some support out there for upgrading the os. Anyone out there have one, and can tell me of their experience with it?

If you see an android tablet on sale like that, it generally means that it sucks so bad they couldn't sell them at a price that would turn a profit.

There are a few halfway decent android pads out there, and lots and lots of pieces of shiat. You gotta be careful, and never buy one you haven't spent at least 20 minutes playing with.

Buy one of the HP Touchpads off of eBay...once you do the updates/patches the performance is great, and they've already got a working Android port for them.

Of course, you may find that you like WebOS...I haven't installed Android on mine yet, still having fun with WebOS 3.04

The LCD isn't a full-fledged tablet, however - it still needs to be controlled by a dock-connected 10" Honeycomb slate made possible by modifying Android to support 1080p high-definition output.

Much the same way that all it takes is a HDMI cable to have a 72" laptop.

If you want a cheap Android tablet just get a Nook Color and dual boot Android. The Nook Color is now $200 and you can boot it with full blown Android 2.X. (new window)

The Nook Tablet is coming out real soon (now?) and is more powerful than the Nook Color. It's $250. I'm waiting to see if it'll be able to dual boot into Android 3.X just like it's predecessor.

i Think this TV-sized tablet thing is a cool idea. if its that big, you should probably just mount it to the wall. Im holding out until they come out with some kind of wireless controller for them though.

I don't have an Android device, but most of these games have been ported over or similar ones exists, I'm sure.

The question was about better games than Angry Birds, not which platform.

And none of them are similar to Angry Birds or what Angry Birds was supposedly a knockoff of. I'll find a game at some point but right now with work, I am a little lazy about doing any braining afterwards. I just want to unwind and searching through bazillions of games looking for something that is better than Birds is just not appealing to me.

Thanks for the list though, I'm not bashing anybody here.
