Meh, I'm ok with this. Wasn't watching that one anyways. Lets talk some more about how much we love Community. Or maybe how stupid NBC was to pick Leno over Conan. The dirt that guy must have on the execs.....

That sucks. It was an interesting show. I hope they let her punch her boyfriends ex-wife sometime before the final episode.

What's NBC gonna do next? Hire Chelsea Clinton to do interviews on the Nightly News?

oh, crap...

Was the thought of a strong, well-written female cop show too much for American audiences? This show ran for over 10 years in the UK and was one of the most popular and successful there.

This is why we can't have nice things!

Everyone knows the "Tough, but fragile woman who takes no guff from nobody" formula only works on it's sister network USA.

It ran over here, too... which is one reason I wasn't watching the American version. I watched Helen Mirren play the part in London; why would I watch Maria Bello play the part in New York?

WTF Indeed: Everyone knows the "Tough, but fragile woman who takes no guff from nobody" formula only works on it's sister network USA.

"Prime Suspect" sucks just as bad as when it was called "In Plain Sight" and was on USA. It even uses the same actress.

who cares, this show looked awful. All I saw was Bello smirking, acting tough, wearing a ridiculous hat, and telling people how it was a good day when she was covered in bruises.

You know why the best cop show was the original run of Law & Order, because cops didn't get into fist fists and draw their guns every two seconds.

It wasn't "awful", but it wasn't good. It was just another Generic Cop Show.

Next thing you'll know they'll be gutting classic literature to make shows like Grimm's Tales....oh wait.

The UK version had Helen Mirren for fark's sake, this has Mario Bello, who is fine, but she isn't Helen Mirren.

It was a sold C+ show.

NBC can't win, can they? All the stuff on their schedule is crap, except the shows they just canned.

I can agree with this, now the US Cracker rehash has a nice bookend partner on the shelf.

I thought it was good. Bello was good and all the secondary cops in her squad were really well written. Plus the fact that the star of the show took a pretty brutal beating in the first episode told me it was something different than your standard cop show.

Wanted to like this show, but it's ....just..... boring. The actors are fine, but it's hard to cover up the fact that the show is a plain old police procedural without anything interesting added to the mix.

Taking UK shows and dumbing them down for the sentient oatmeal in the US is a failing model.

Good point though. In the end the American Prime Suspect had more in common with Kojack than it did UK Prime Suspect. American Prime Suspect went over old territory. It had nothing new to say about women in male dominated professions and it did not say it in a new way. In many ways The Wire was just another cop show with a renegade cop BUT it used that to give fresh perspective on the drug war and found a new way of delivering its story.

1. I've seen Prime Suspect with Helen goddamn Mirren. What is there to be gained by watching it Maria Bello?

2. I just didn't like her character. I get what they were going for, but it just came off as "look, we can make female cops angry too! EQUALITY!" All we got was a crappier female version of a Christopher Meloni with 18 gallons of penis envy in a 3 gallon bucket.

Mira Bello (good actress, very attractive) is not Helen Mirren VERY good actress). Plus the show was dumbed down a little too much for my taste.

And the hat she kept wearing?

Yeah, take it off.

Community is a show about some self involved 20 somethings going to a community college. First season was excellent, second and third hit and miss, though lately more hit than not. It is on NBC, Thursdays I think, (I usually watch it on DVR Saturday mornings) Check it out, it's fun.

I'm enjoying both of those more than that pile of fetid pig shiat that is Terra Nova.

I mean, seriously, they farked up dinosaurs. DINOSAURS! Their formula so far has been:

a) Very little dinosaurs
b) Too much irritating family that don't appear to have any issues despite having a ridiculously farked up back story

No dirt in the case of Leno vs Conan was an iron clad contract. Sure Conan's Tonight Show ratings weren't great but he was actually holding his own in the important 18-49 demo. Leno on the other hand, his ratings for the 10pm Jay Leno Show were horrible to the point where a bunch of network affiliates were ready to revolt and show Seinfeld or Simpsons repeats at 10pm rather than Leno. But Leno's contract was so good that they couldn't just fire him, and even if they did he basically told them he would go to ABC and compete against them at 1135. So of the options available to them unfortunatly the least painful one, after Conan and his people told them he wasn't prepared to do The Tonight Show at 12:05 was to release Conan and bring Jay back to late night. The whole thing was driven by Leno's crappy show way more than the ratings Conan was getting.
