I think that most people can understand that. What gets me is that there might be a lot of false claims as well. To me, those people are scum. But, the other silver lining is that it might empower other victims in other places to come forward. This is really reminiscent of the Catholic Church scandal to me.

Tenured professors, college coaches, and administration have been getting away with criminal behavior for decades because of the "education is so important!" and "how dare you question my research ethics. you must hate science you toothless redneck!" crowd.
