FTFA: He finally took the matter to his biological father, who told his son to take pictures of the marijuana. The father then forwarded the photos to authorities.

Sounds like he was spurred on by his dad. Nice job, dickhead.

If, as the article states, the step-dad uses the mj medicinally then there is some validity to having it in the house. I don't know what Minnesota's stance on medical marijuana is, but I'd imagine that if he had a mmj card they wouldn't have been arrested.

That being said, it is HIGHLY unlikely that the amount of smoke in the house would even compare to what you'd find in a home where parents smoke cigarettes. Nobody is jailing the parents of those poor kids who show up to school reeking of cigarettes and the potential harm to children by second-hand smoke has been proven many times over.

/blaze in the garage, dumbass.

sigh - it does not give him the right to expose the child to the carcinogens associated with the smoke. Dumas step dad should not have smoked with the child present.

/if cigarettes were so bad, the would be banned....but the corrupt politicians that prostitute themselves to corporate interests will never do this (Pelosi, Reid, Boner).

Well, one can say the same for cigarette-smoking parents. And unfortunately parents do have rights to care for their children in a manner that they deem suitable. We could argue about that all day.

What seems so asinine about this is that the kid complained to his bio-dad who - instead of going to the mom and step-dad himself - had the kid take pictures and then shared them with the police. If marijuana was legal, would it have gone down like that?

It is highly likely that, had the bio dad reported it himself, he would be accused of malice toward his ex (re custody fight our whatever). I think it was the perfect solution to the problem.

My friend's brother threatened to turn in his parents if they didn't stop smoking. He was IIRC 7 years old, and his dad was using the pot to treat MS symptoms.

Son now works for a conservative think tank.

/sigh
//I've hung out with friend, his dad, and his brother, and they're fine, but that story still creeps me out a bit
///Granted, maybe the MS symptoms weren't so bad two decades ago, but when I met him I couldn't imagine anyone denying him *anything* that would mitigate the symptoms, even a little bit

Bad parenting has turned your child into a hitler youth, you only have yourself to blame. A good parent would have warned their children about calling the police.

You seem like the pro-legalize pot crowd type that would absolutely go ballistic if the mom and step-dad were exposing the kid to secondhand Marlboro smoke. Either secondhand smoke is bad or it isn't, pot or tobacco.

A very sneaky and underhanded way of going about getting full custody. Unless he is a moron he would have had his lawyer prepped and ready for the court hearings as soon as the charges were filed against the other parents. I dont have alot of sympathy for the mother and BF, not because they are potheads but because if her son gave have a schlitz for her then his 11 year old ass wouldnt be narcing her out with evidence to get away from her. Or can you honestly say he had no idea what he was actually doing, unless he is functionally retarded then I highly doubt he was ignorant of how this would all go down.

So, bio father laughs his ass off at an easy win and possible child support payments reversing and now heading his way. Mother and BF now facing a few years or possible probation and the loss of the 1 kid (good riddance). Cops roll their eyes and put on tough-guy-on crime face when cameras are on em. Judge will slam gavel and scream guilty!!! while secretly thinking "wow that was some cold hearted shiat". Cigars all around I suppose.

The lesson here is not "dont do drugs, dont have kids". Its "if your kid doesnt like you, send him to daddy to live before he farks you in the ass while laughing."

RTFA. It says the kid only went to bio-dad after complaining about the smoke several times to his mom. The kid just hit the end of his leash. I don't blame him. I don't care whether you want to smoke MJ, but that shiat smells like ass and I prefer if you don't do it near me.

8 pounds of pot is not a casual user amount. That is possession with intent to distribute in some places.
