He came to take the copper, but in the end the coppers took him.

Dude - wiring? It's not much copper, and it's typically energized.
Around here, HVAC copper tubing is the pro's choice...

That's alot of cop cars for arresting a single douche bag committing a crime.

And I bet if said douche bag didn't waste money on douchey bleach and spiked hair he probably could get a job and not need to steal copper.

What are the chances that he sues the store for not having a sturdy enough ceiling?

I guess the prices are not the only thing falling in this store.

They had to make sure there were no other suspects in the crawl spaces. Copper thieves often work in teams on larger targets such as commercial buildings. So the search took a little more manpower than would be required to simply arrest him. You have to wonder about the target selection of hitting an active store where copper wire would be live and instantly noticed if removed rather than the numerous empty homes and commercial buildings around.

They are getting more brazen, too. Recently I was cleaning the junk out of a repo property, preparing it for sale. Two guys in a pickup rolled up and asked me if there was any copper in the house. Now I guess the criminals are just asking if they can steal it.

Reportedly the cashier asked him "Will that be paper or plastic?"
