Is it worse because he's a vet? I thought plotting to murder people was just wrong in general, usually.

Why doesn't solicitation for murder carry the same charge as murder-1? Why does she get time off because she was incompetent?

She'd "hit it"

26 year old 1SG? That makes no sense. The Article has to be wrong about his age and/or his rank. That, or the guy enlisted in middle school.

Just out of curiosity, what happened to the would-be contract killer? Did the police just let him slide?

Oh don't give me that. If he hadn't framed Krusty in the first place he would never have had a vendetta against Bart, and all would have been great. In fact, he likely would have found a huge fan in Bart and developed a long term meaningful relationship. But NooOOOooo he had big shoes to fill and just had to try to grab the spotlight. See kids, crime never pays.

Nogale: Just out of curiosity, what happened to the would-be contract killer? Did the police just let him slide?

Yeah, punish the guy who turned her in. Great idea! Now every time some crazy woman tries to hire someone to kill someone else they'll be too scared to go to the cops (or the intended victim)! You're a farking genius!

No one was murdered because she happened to ask the wrong person. Without her actions changing at all, he could very well have been murdered. Why does it matter whether or not she was successful? If we are going to arrest pedos for needing to have a seat over there, when there is never even a child involved in the first place, I think she should be charged as if she was successful. We're seriously letting her off (relatively) easy because she was incompetent?

It's a little known fact. It was mentioned exactly once in the episode where Troy McClure answers a bunch of questions about the SImpsons, I think it was the 137th episode spectacular (or some such) the same episode where viewers ask "So what's the deal with Mr. Smithers; you know what I'm talking about..." But all subsequent reruns had Sideshow Bob's real name edited out. Unless you saw the original airing of that episode you missed it. Sorry =/

Or put another way, if she had put a gun to his head and shot him. But he survived a la Gifford, should she have a lesser punishment? The motive, and follow-through both exist, she just sucks at killing.

In that case she would have been charged with attempted murder, not murder 1. To be charged with murder, someone has to be murdered. Lesser punishment? I suppose that depends on the law in Kentucky. Where I live, murder 1 brings a death sentence, attempted murder is 30 years to life and I think that's certainly reasonable.

Isn't his last name Terwilliger?

Like most Simpsons names, after a street here in Portland.

Okay, I'll agree to attempted murder. As long as it's attempted Murder-1. I guess, I agree as long as the penalties for attempted murder are fairly steep. She wanted him dead and she did her damndest to make it happen. Thankfully she was unsuccessful.

I'm quite rusty about required time in rank, but assuming he enlisted ~17 and was deployed once or more times to a combat zone, I believe it's possible. Not common, but possible.

According to about.com, the absolute minimum Time in Service (TIS) for First Sergeant is 8 years. There appears to be a fast track to E4 (Corporal) if you enlist with the Special Forces option, but I'm not sure if that lets you take a year off your TIS for promotion to First Sergeant.

Isn't it possible they promoted him after he was injured?

She should have waited for Republicans' total indifference to vets to kill him off.

We had a gun bunny make MSG in just over 8 years. Of course he had his been there, done that a couple of times over and it didnt hurt he actually knew what the hell he was doing.

Look at those ruby painted lips and tinted hair. I bet she going out on the town for love. Its sick. It not him that stated a crazy asian war. He just went an did his patriotic chore. Now he is bent and paralyzed. At 26, I'm sure she has wants and needs, but leaving and slamming the door is not the way to do it. She's just luck this guy didn't get his gun and put her in the ground instead.

I don't actually know anything about US military ranks, but I do know that you get a promotion upon medical discharge. Is it still inconceivable if you assume that he was serving at the rank below 1SG, got promoted to 1SG on discharge and TFA phrased that badly?

I've never heard of anyone getting a promotion upon medical discharge. Kick in the ass? Yes. Promotion? No.

They are. It's part of the military's ten year-old Intensified Enlisted Development (IED) program.

thats exactly what i said...the only way thats possible is if he enlisted in as an e4 or something...but thats just if you've graduated college, i think, which he couldnt have done at 18 (the time it would take for him to make 1SG at 26).

i dunno.
