She told the deputy she had her head on Howard Windham's lap because she was tired. However, when the deputy pulled over to the side of the road, he could see that despite both parties being handcuffed behind their backs, Windham's pants were unfastened and Arie was servicing his exposed genitalia.

I'm actually pretty impressed, that must have taken some decent coordination, flexibility and teamwork. +1 you horny Soma pill popping Epsilons.

Sadly , I grew up around there and eat at that Whataburger every time I go home to visit which is about every 5 yrs.

All I can say is that I am glad I left Texas and that the white trash gene is strong with those people down there - almost like Florida.

The current stuff is brand name for the compound Carisoprodol. There is an an ancient origin to the name, which is what I'm sure the book drew upon, and I'm sure the brand name too. But the current brand name stuff bears no relation to the ancient stuff, and the book had used the name before the drug name would have been picked out. If I'm the marketing guy in the room, I block that name, because despite the ancient connotations, it's gonna be more closely associated with a negative element in a very well known dystopian novel.

I think I just learned a lot.
And to clarify, you are saying that naming the new stuff Soma was a bad move, because of the implicit associations with BNW? I wasn't so sure what the intent of your last sentence was.

Exactly. I wouldn't think that naming your drug something that a lot of people* associate with a drug used to control the population in a well known dystopian** novel is the greatest plan.

As for the history of the name, don't feel too bad about yourself. I looked it up. Like my Boobies said, I didn't realize that there was actually a production drug under this name until now.

*Okay, considering the literary references I remember versus what the wider population does, 'a lot' may be overstating it a bit.
**Anti-utopian basically, in case you didn't know that word- see literary geek note above.
