George Will helped Ronald Reagan prepare for his debates with Jimmy Carter. He did not disclose this and continued to appear on television and write columns about the election, supporting Reagan.

Why should he change now?

I can decide whether to respond to your question with sarcasm or disbelief. So, I'm going to advise you to take a shower and sober up, and then reflect on your life.

Should ABC give George Will the opportunity to step down voluntarily before the network fires him?

That's not a problem because ABC won't fire him. Bias only matters when the bias is liberal to the media, and to Republicans. For reference, Republicans not giving a fark that supposedly impartial USSC judges dined with the party to a suit they are going to hear. Of course, the judges have a history of doing what the GOP likes.

If ABC has a policy that would require him to resign then yes that would be nice. NPR has such a policy. NPR is also under the spotlight because of recent incidents.

Ms. Norris stepped down temporarily because her husband's position that may have caused a conflict of interest. It seems like a wise move to me.

"Columnist and media pundit George Will can continue to cover the 2012 election despite the fact it has been revealed that wife Mari Maseng is advising contender Rick Perry after getting turned down for a position with Mitt Romney's organization. "

And what is she advising him to do? "Next time, tell the press you want to get rid of only two Federal Agencies."

His campaign is dead in the water anyways.

The NYTimes, WaPo, ABCCBSCNNMSNBCNBCNPRPBS, LATimes, Chicago Trib, etc and et al ALL support Obama so what's your point?

That ONE commentator somehow skewed the nation into electing Reagan?
Well, one commentator didn't but every news outlet listed above was and is in the tank for Obama so your argument is invalid.

And rather simplistic.

George Will used to make so much sense. I just... I don't understand it. In the 90s he made me believe I was a fiscal conservative. Now he just seems like a troll. I can't understand how it happened. Did he change or did I?

so
Norris worked for NPR is a privately and publicly funded non-profit membership media organization.
Given the government funding, it is logical that NPR has rules about conflict of interest.

Will works for a for-profit company. They can make any rule that they want about conflict of interest. who cares.

/what a stupid article.

He's a Cubs fan, so it's not like he went to a real baseball game. I'll concede he was probably overdressed for that dump of a beer garden they call a stadium.

There is no double standard here.

A News Anchor is a type of reporter, whose job it is to avoid disclosing their own opinion. A Columnist is a completely different position whose job is to write and speak their opinions.

Now if you want to complain about Connie Chung, you might have a point.

I thought it was interesting that I read the headline and thought this was going to be a liberal vs. conservative article. But our female author managed to throw me for a curve and made it a man vs. woman article. Nice move.

2011-11-15 10:31:04 PM
Screw the politics of it all.... the article focues on "a woman quit for her man, why won't a man quit for her woman'" or some such nonsense.

Pick a topic and stick with it. Both are superfluous since no one really cares, but you really should write TWO articles (that no one will read) on TWO different points of view/appoaches to this OMGWTFBBQ non-story.

Not to mention that Norris is journalist and hosted a respected news program while Will writes columns for the opinion section of the newspaper.

George Will is supposed to write columns where he gives his opinions about various subjects.

Michele Norris is supposed to report the news about various subjects.

Will = Opinions
Norris = News

Know the difference.

I think it's ridiculous that she has to quit because her husband has a public opinion about Obama. On the other hand, I think she should have been fired long ago for insisting on a retarded pronunciation of her name.

What is it about this joyless, frowning, bow-tie wearing, pedant that makes me want to hit him every time he opens his mouth and utters opinions that no one is interested in?

The man's a relic from the Reagan 80s. His is the world of Murphy Brown, the Laffer Curve, and Dan Quayleisms. Bloom County's already been cancelled George. David Brinkely's no longer around to save your ass.

2011-11-15 10:46:56 PM
One is a columnist paid for his opinion.

The other is a supposedly unbiased journalist paid for her objectivity.

We're supposed to be outraged that there's a different standard applied to two different positions?

SmitetheRighteous: Bloom County's already been cancelled George.

I wish Berkley Breathed brought back Bloom County. There is so much fodder these days for a resurrection of Bloom County it's making comedians, cartoonists, journalists, and just about anyone willing to poke fun at the stupids, giddy with glee because they're guaranteed punch-lines.

Maybe the 1983 Berke Breathed. After his ultralight accident Bloom County started to go downhill until he finally put it down. Thank God he never did any other cartoons. They would have blown goats.

There is no political hate like intra-party hate. Whether it's Dems slicing each other to bits in a New Jersey Senatorial campaign or Republicans decimating themselves in a Congressional election, few political theaters compare to primaries where the winner is (almost) guaranteed to win the election. So if G F Will wants to berate Romney in his columns and his employer is ok with that, so be it. Heck, he works for a fairly liberal media outlet, if he's bashing Republicans he might have *increased* his job security. I respect the NPR journalist for stepping down but then I stopped listening to their news programs long ago, the one where I used to live was openly biased and made CNN look like a periodical from Liberty University.
