tdyak: How do ground vehicles fare? Wheeled vehicles always lasted about 2 rounds before an axle was blown and the crew had to run for cover. Hovercrafts were good until one of their components were blown quickly. Still, they were good for support. If I remember, tanks could hold their own (Treads had different rules and were stronger)

I'm away from my rulebooks at work, so this is from memory. Short answer, not well. The game is balanced to make 'Mechs effective.

Crits start on 7's instead of 8's IIRC and ~30% of the hit locations automatically cause a motive systems crit. Motive systems crits are a different table with minor damage starting around a 6, hover vehicles are a +3 or 4 while tracked are a -2. Most vehicles get pillboxed within a couple rounds of fire unless they are lucky or have a very good movement modifier. Vehicles can be very heavily armed relative to a 'Mech though, I've seen SRM carriers eat pristine 'Mechs especially if you are using hidden unit rules.

This was already covered in a previous thread.

Mechwarrior copyright holders being sued by Robotech copyright holders, because fast flying sissy mechs are so similar to slow walking manly steel mechs

Because the Marauder, Warhammer and Crusader Mechs were also obvious ripoffs from Robotech, along with the LAM's...

knightofargh: itstehpope: I killed the Kell Hounds with an Urbanmech. Now that I've said that, let the hate commence!

I've seen that urbie. It doesn't count. Although it does prove that artillery is the true lord of the battlefield.

If by artillery you mean nuclear tipped ones, yes, they have a tendency to rule the roost. If you're talking about other Arrow IV boats, remember the rule. "If Pope wants something in quantity, the answer is no."

Marauders, Shadow Hawks, BattleMasters, Phoenix Hawk (LAM), Rifleman, Stinger (LAM), Warhammer, Wasp (LAM), Crusader, Archer and Goliath Quadruped all got the axe.

Please note that they still sell the miniatures of most of these, but redesigned them so they aren't infringing. Copyrights suck sometimes.

I'll take the field against nearly anyone with my beloved Hellbringer:

Hell, in MW4, I'd strip most of the rear armor off that bad boy and shift it all up front, load up with MLas, JJs and the fastest engine loadout...and then make people cry. Urban combat in a quick, front tough smaller mech that could drop 8 MLas shots on an Alpha strike was something to behold.

Same deal if knightofargh is wearing his armour and asks if you consent to being hit... The rule is generally "If Pope is trying to hit it, stand there because the artillery will drift." With nukes it doesn't matter.

For those coming back to the game, yes we have nuke rules in Battletech. No, you don't usually survive being within the blast.

That's sorta what I did with MW2 Novas. IIRC I would use 6 MLasers on them and jump jets. So I would strip them down and put everything into heat sink and engine and just zip around spamming MLaser all day long. People who say Novas suck because you can't rotate chassis for strafing are either lazy or don't know their stuff very well.

Nice. I still remember my first version of that in the little zip-loc envelope. I SO want to play that again.

BoardGameGeeks has a pretty good round up of all the old Microgames:

I've got all those games except for Sticks & Stones and Chitin: I. I used to have several copies of Chitin: I, some used and some unpunched, but some idiot at the hobby store I used to go to wouldn't take no for an answer when I refused to give him a free copy, so he later broke into my apartment and stole them (along with some other items). I later found out he did it after he sold one of the copies to a common friend of ours.

I wish I could say that I got some awesome nasty revenge on him, but the worst I could do was tell the other games to keep his distance from him.

That woman earned her nickname "Acid Queen" quite rightfully. I stopped visiting Sarna.net back in the 90's because of her "asshatery".

Her hatred of WebTVers was legendary. I'm pretty sure the abuse she used to heap upon them would qualify as a hate crime now.

OSULugan: Metraxis: I remember VWE. My local D&B had them for years. I started off with the Vulture, but switched to the MadDog once I got better, since it still had the 190 degree torso freedom, but a more energy-heavy loadout. Dual PPCs are murder on your heat, but do glorious things when unloaded into the back-torso area at range.

Maybe it's just the Battletech tabletop gamer in me, but this post had me quite confused. The Maddog and the Vulture are the same Battlemech ("Vulture" was just the Innersphere's code name for it).

It's about context. The VWE setup didn't let you customize your loadout. There were just two mechs with the same chassis. The Vulture packed ACs and SRMs, while the MadDog swapped them out in favor of ER PPCs.

All I have to say is, I see a whole bunch of free-birth, contraction using, no good mech piloting, Inner Sphere scum in here. Worthless, the lot of you. You would be lucky to survive in the sewers on Solaris, let alone the arenas.
