According to a good friend who is a biblical scholar, the "virgin" is a mis-translation of the Hebrew "almah", meaning a young girl, which raises a whole passel of the other issues.

She's old enough to play Saint Anne, though, if she insists on a role in the Nativity story. The Madonna was probably about fifteen, sixteen, possibly younger. I can't be sure I could tell Pamela Anderson from Sophia Loren every time.

Also the possibility that "demi-god borne of a [temple] virgin" story was a familiar enough one to the Romans that they 1) used it to try to convince the Jews to stop being so Jewish, or 2) used it to convince the Roman citizenry tthat submitting to Constantine's mother's new religion was OK, or 3) some of both.
