ultraholland: The tree of liberty must be uprooted from time to time. ~ Thomas Jefferson

However, I'd think he meant that it should be uprooted for the good of freedom and liberty, not to appease corporate masters and throw us back into the dark ages.

Gov. Rick Perry returned to Iowa on Monday with plans to unveil a sweeping federal consolidation that he said would "uproot all three branches of government."

Anyone actually surprised he knew how many branches of government there were?

From another source:

"At the heart of Perry's plan is one to reshape Congress into a part-time "citizen" Congress and cut each rank-and-file member's salary of $174,000 a year in half."

"On judges, Perry proposes 18-year terms for all new federal judges including future appointees to the Supreme Court. Such a change would require an amendment to the Constitution."

Sorry why are they interesting ideas again?

The problem we have is people going to congress that are swayed by money from outside interest, how does paying them LESS, dissuade them more from getting gifts and jobs when they retire? Your really think the problem is we have people going to congress just for the salary and if we pay less we will get better people?

And why do you think term limited judges would do betteR?

Well, this is a republican candidate we're talking about here.

I almost want the GOP to get the White House and both houses of Congress, just to see what kind of shiatstorm it would create in this country. I mean, let them get in there, do whatever they want, and watch the disaster it creates.

You mean, tax cuts have nothing to do with job growth?!

You mean, tax cuts for billionaires don't result in revenue increases?!

Paying for wars with money we don't have can bankrupt a country?!

Education really does matter after all?!

he liberty of the whole earth was depending on the issue of the contest, and was ever such a prize won with so little innocent blood? My own affections have been deeply wounded by some of the martyrs to this cause, but rather than it should have failed, I would have seen half the earth desolated. Were there but an Adam and an Eve left in every country, and left free, it would be better than as it now is. - Thomas Jefferson on the French Revolution
