I think I was born with the kindness gene. I'm filled with love and joy towards others naturally but sadly and slowly the reality of how most humans are is jading me.

Even worse was when I walked to the liquor store and I had to outrun the bums on the 2 blocks back. The worst was when I tried to walk home with a pizza and this resulted in a fat woman in stretch pants screaming "gimme a slice" as she waddled after me up the sidewalk. After that I changed to using the alley behind the street where the chance of getting robbed was much higher, but at least I could avoid the bums.

I think I had the kindness gene at one point... but after getting farked over by enough people, it died. Now I seek to expunge mankind from the face of the earth.

Unlike my nickname here, I am blessed and cursed with this gene (I think). The upside is that you can get really close to people and they really share some painful, or neat, or deep things!! That's actually cool, to be trusted that much. The downside is ending up the receptacle of everybody's secrets. That part is not so easy, because you are kind towards 2 people who are in conflict with each other, and know stuff that the other should know, but doesn't because it was told in confidence.

My sister is a crazy magnet tho - if there is a stranger passing by who is mentally unstable, they actually STOP to talk to my sister. I don't know why - maybe her kindness genetics are even stronger than mine.

Just got back from Vegas about a month ago. Lost more money on the winos than I did on the slots. (Someone has to keep the lights on.........)

I have the same problem- I might as well have the words "Please ask me for money" tattooed on my forehead. I live in a city with a lot of homeless people so I've had to learn how to just walk by them. I still get hit up by every charity worker under the sun, though.

I usually walk down the street with my head up and eyes forward, then when I see a homeless person approaching me I ask them for a dollar before they get a chance to speak. Usually they stop dead in their tracks and look confused which gives me time to walk away. Sometimes they look confused and say 'No' which is my cue to ask them for a cigarette. I like to call that 'the double whammy'.
