To be fair, this pretty much illustrates the problem that we face.

It's not a push to oppose the President on issues just because he's "wrong" on the issue, not on a matter of principle, not even that pizza and fries are MOAR AMERICAN! or a matter of choice, but a lobbying issue that has to be hidden in other language. It is a matter of preserving what amounts to subsidies to industries that lobby heavily. School lunches are much like textbook sales, and you can steer dollars to the "right" hands, or you can let the market actually work, and let companies that are agile and responsive deliver product. The brave folks who are looking to score points, while preserving valuable contributions will spin this as another issue, but deep down, it's about defending contributors, and potential contributors.

What's right and what's good for someone's pocket who you are indebted to, that's pretty much at the crux of these matters, and no amount of spin is going to change that, but for damn sure folks are going to try.

Some conservatives in Congress have called the push for healthier foods an overreach, saying the government shouldn't be telling children what to eat.

Unless it's telling them to eat frozen pizza, salt, and potatoes, right?

Liberty means never having to eat broccoli.

Diogenes: Liberty means never having to eat broccoli.

Just remember all those kids that gave the ultimate price for your freedom, and ate their broccoli so that you wouldn't have to.

On the bright side, when it all goes to shiat in this country at least we can feast on the fatty innards of the overfed, lazy kids.

People aren't thrilled with Obama, but they farking hate Congress, wonder why?

I know - god forbid we encourage kids to get healthy by giving them nutritional food at school! What's next - more recess time? More laps during gym class?!

When will it stop!

Damn Nzerobama... you just lost the fat kids votes.

*Looks at the GOP front runners*. You're still good for a landslide victory in 2012.

Wendy's Chili: Unless it's telling them to eat frozen pizza, salt, and potatoes, right?

Starting to see this from the "libertarians" I know. They yell about free market, no socialism, no taxes, etc. I point out that things like the Hoover Dam are the result of lots of taxes not to mention the government stepping in to build something that would have been deemed unprofitable and not worth building by private industry, so would they be in favor of ripping all that "socialism" away? Oh, of course not. We can keep what we already have, just don't ask them to pay for any new "socialist" stuff. Right.

Republicans want to hunt children for sport, but only obese, out-of-shape ones who are kept in small enclosures.

Exactly. The article in question does a better job pointing this out than most reporting on politics by the Big Three networks.

I'm not exactly a health nut, but even I don't classify the tomato paste in pizza as a vegetable. Honestly, is there any reason to vote Republican anymore? They've turned into absurd caricatures of what conservatives should actually be.

Hypocrite. He denounces fatty children's foods, yet he hasn't divorce the overweight silverback he calls his wife.

Is there a tomato paste lobby or something? Or is this just about maximizing corporate profits for school lunch providers? Corporations probably make more money off fattys anyway, providing them with more food, medical care later and charging them higher insurance rates. Lock them in for life early! Get some more Coke machines in there!

God forbid we tell children what to eat. But there's no problem telling adults who they can marry, or that they can't posses a plant.

Pretty f*cked up mentality there.

A really great book is
"Salt: a world history" by Mark Kurlansky
Salt played a huge role over the years, including in the American Civil war.

There isn't as much money to be lost by saying to gheys to suck it, marriage-wise. School lunch programs, different story.

And what industry would line the pockets of Republicans in favor of gay marriage? Exactly.
