But Boeing was over 4 years late delivering the 787... So maybe the problem is unrealistic delivery targets combined with the uncomfortable truth that distributed manufacturing doesn't work for an aircraft manufacturer as well as it works for low technology products (like cars).

Akbar Al Baker?

Tammie Faye's brother-in-law?

"Asked about Al Baker's accusation that Airbus needs to learn how to build aircraft, [Airbus COO John Leahy] said 'we learn very fast.'"

Um... is that REALLY the best you can do?

Yeah, he's kind of an ass, but we'll work out the kinks and make a shiat-load of money (better response)

Guy sounds like one of those customers that's not worth having, but I guess it's an industry where you don't have much choice but to kiss his ass.

It doesn't work any better for cars either. There are millions recalled every year to fix safety issues.

Follow up: He did the deal with Airbus a few hours later. Hella negotiator.

If you take that and combine with a client who is in the airline industry solely because he's some kind of modern feudal lord and has access to a bunch of oil money, magic happens. Customer and client deserve each other.

Airbus / Scarebus continues its ritual un-prosecuted pre-meditated killing of passengers world wide. From forcing tsunami destroyed countries to buy Scarebus to get aid, to failing the A380 150% wing-loading test, Scarebus builds on its reputation for falling out of the sky. FL35, cruise and it "breaks up". Nice. Good planes.

He's an Arab ruler, basically comes with the territory.

Can't wait till we transition away from oil so we can stop pretending we respect these creeps.

"We have reached an impasse with them," Al Baker told the conference when asked why the Airbus deal fell through. "We thought we would conclude an agreement. Airbus is still learning how to make airplanes."

This might be a very good time to buy shares in Boeing. Sure, they got pissed when the 747-8 didn't live up to expectations, but Boeing knows how to make airplanes.

I thought Alaska Airlines was the Greyhound of the skies?

(Or maybe it's more like a cheap Greyhound knock-off.)

Like fine wine, real Parmesan cheese, and the HA HA guy, it just gets better with age.

Alaska Airlines outside of Alaska is more like Amtrak. Southwest is Greyhound.

Alaska Airlines inside Alaska is Soviet-era Aeroflot.

Qatar Airways is hands down the worst airline I've ever flown. Biggest bunch of complete assholes I've ever had the displeasure of having to deal with.
