Missing the early station wagon concept:

And as cool as the more recent 'Vettes are, to me they just aren't proper 'Vettes if they
don't have the flip-up headlights.

I understand the sentiment...but I think that people got sick of replacing those little headlight motors.

I do not understand the headline. The content of the linked article does not at all relate to male genitalia.

Why do you hate America, Subby?

For the price you really can't buy a better performance car. A Z06 (500hp/470lbft) starts at 75.5K

That's 14k less than the GTR (also an awesome performance car).

The stock corvette is 50K.

Only gripes people have is with the build quality and refinement of the interior. But that stuff costs money, which would increase the price of the vette.

Other gripe is the usual casual (automatic) owners. They are both lame and driving it as a status symbol.

Depends. That "first to fourth" feature they had was annoying to my dad.

A bunch of sad, old men in that comments section.

Easily eliminated for free by accelerating more. Or, build (or pay ~$40 for) a CAGS eliminator and never worry about it again.

If by "free" you mean "greatly increased fuel consumption".

And jailbreaking your Corvette is not an acceptable answer.

Skip shift can be disabled with a minor wiring mod.

For $12k you can get a brand new vehicle that will do 200+ mph, with a couple of minor modifications.

Oh noes, you mean a 'Vette owner has to drive aggressively? Whatever shall they do? I'm sure their primary reason for purchasing a 2-door sports car was Prius-like fuel economy.

I suppose paying a gas guzzler tax, like these fine vehicles come with, instead of including an easily defeatable electronic "nanny" is preferable to you?

"penis compensation" is just an excuse poor people use for not having cool stuff :P

It must suck when you're poor AND have a small dick....lol

Also the Vette is an awesome car, check em out in ALMS.

I had a stepdad in the 1970s who bought a split-window Stingray. The moron fell asleep while drunk driving and f*cked up the front end. He got it fixed, but what a dumbass.

I was never a big car person, but those vintage Corvettes are real purrty.

The C-5 was a milestone as a true user-friendly sports car. The well sorted out ones are fast, reliable, reasonably economical and rattle-free after 15 years. They have only gotten better since then.

Although I do miss the up-skirt views from the C-4s and earlier...

I guess that depends on your notion of what counts in a performance car. If all you care about is power to weight and raw speed, sure. But if you start considering things like build quality and ride quality the allure of the Corvette starts to fall apart. Not to mention that if you like handling there are better handling cars for significantly cheaper.

Not that I have anything in particular against the Corvette, I just don't get the price argument. If you have that kind of scratch for a toy performance car is the "bargain bin" argument really going to sway you? If it comes down to it, I'd have a hard time walking away from an XF, S5, CTS-V, IS F or a number of AMGs at the same price or less in favor of a Vette. Hell, for ten grand more you can have an XK.

And if all you care about is raw performance you can do a lot better for a lot cheaper with a much less expensive car and a good mechanic on your side.

Because nobody has ever modified their vehicle before I guess? No filters, chips, twin turbos? So folks pan an entire Vette generation for an easily reversed electronic tweak that let GM up the HP and still maintain CAFE...Skip-shift goes away at 15% throttle; hardly "aggressive". Prius cars pull away at 15% throttle....

I think:
There are pretentious douche-mobiles for balding, 50-something, midlife-crisis-having accountants who've never had anything nice before and think if the thing looks like an over-inflated Ferrari, it must be good. Wrong. I will admit that the 'Vettes from the 50's were pretty cool, but they lost any semblance to an actual sports car in the sixties and have only gotten further away from that with time.

/just my opinion though.

The rest of us really don't give a shiat what you drive.

That's the thing, if you want a purpose built handling car you can go cheaper. If you want a purpose built muscle car, you can go cheaper. It's combing these things that increases the price point of a vehicle. Could you build up a WRX to best a base corvette. Yea. Probably. But not everyone trusts or is interested in a complete engine/suspension re-build to reach the level the corvette is at.

It's a good value if you want handling and performance in the same package.

before reading the article or looking at any posts, I'd guess that it's gotten smaller (but more expensive)

/ of course, this is only true if it is what I think it is... buying expensive crap to show off and attract ladies because you have no intrinsic value (although the penis is on the outside, it is included in the category of a man, so it is intrinsic categorically).
