It's my fault. I bought that toolbox and wrench at Home Depot the other day instead of Lowes. Sorry guys.

Strange, the Lowe's near me is always busy.

Or perhaps it just seems that way since they only have two farking check out lanes open on a Saturday afternoon.

Great.
Now the MBA farkheads and venture capitalists are going to fark one of my favorite stores into the ground.

This is not good news for Stanley.

First they're about to announce they are dumping Pfister and now this news.

Good. Because Stanley's CEO is a worthless prick.

The Lowe's near me has some asshat-designed parking lot where you are forced to drive past the entrance in order to get into the parking lot. Thus you have to contend with not only traffic entering and exiting the area, but all the people trying to get from the parking lot into the store (and back, now laden with God knows what). The two HDs that are farther away and the True Value both have you enter the parking lot away from the entrance.

/drives out of my way to avoid Lowe's

Well yeah, if you can't afford to keep your home you likely can't afford to improve it.

I'll be going there to pick up a few appliances today, then head over to the Home Depot to get the hardware to install them. Lowes stores are designed for regular people, it was what got them to where they are. It forced HD to become a more 'user friendly' store for average homeowners. The HD is still the contractors store.

They are in the process of closing the Lowe's local to me, they just opened the store a year ago. and spent a ton of money on site clean up, the previous land owner used to run a junk yard there and was a dump-site for machine coolant from all the local machine shops for about 30 years. Ohh well maybe it will become a Target now.

Yet the type 59 is cheaper AND has gun depression. Enjoy being tracked on small hills.

On a related note, Menards seen cutting sponsorship from his sons NASCAR to fund buyouts of Lowe's abandoned buildings.

I buy pretty much everything from Lowes, except for actual lumber. Every place I've lived, Lowes's lumber has been warped & knotty but HD's has been much better quality.

Oh I know this, and I have one, but it wasn't pertinent to the subject at hand.

/and the Type 59 tracks more than anything I've used, and gets ammo racked wayyyyyy more

Perhaps more folks are realizing that the big box stores are just oversized convenience stores, prices are not that great. But its convenience they are selling.

It's far, far more likely that this is a result of a collapsed housing bubble but your idea makes me feel better, so let's go with that.

I'm restoring a house so I spend a lot of time at home depot these days. The reason I go to home depot over Lowes is because home depot has everything you need to build a house from scratch. Every Lowes by me has more cosmetic items than they do actual building supplies.

2011-11-15 11:33:22 AM
I think it actually has more to do with Lowes than the economy. HD income was up during the same period.

I had been going exclusively to Lowes since HD lost their customer service several years ago, but HD has apparently learned from their mistakes and actually improved customer service recently while Lowes has declined noticeably. Seems like every time I go to Lowes now there is some excuse why they can't do or have something, assuming you can find anyone who even knows what they are doing. As a result, I have been checking more places than in the past, and find myself using others more frequently.

Even worse, we recently made several major improvements and Lowes wanted $35 just to tell me what they would charge for each service. Not one of the other sources I checked charged a fee for the same estimates. Hard to give them the job if they won't give me an estimate to consider. Even the cost of many of their appliances do not include things like the electrical cord, hose, etc. that you have to buy separately for like $12. It is not even the cost, but the hassle and the principal compared to other places.

I like Lowes over HD for the quality and better selection of products. If I'm in a hurry, I go to HD for supplies.

I can't wait to complete my MBA just so I can get out there and get me a piece of Lowe's. Every time I walk into that store I get a boner, soon I'll be able to do something about it.

Every Home Depot I've ever been to has dreadful customer service, while Lowe's tends to be better.

I prefer Rona over both of them.

I blame Jimmie Johnson's sucking this season.

We just bought a couple appliances there for our new (first) house and the customer service was above and beyond. They've earned our loyalty. They better not fark with their customer service in the name of profits.

Everything I can find at both stores (Home Depot & Lowe's) is always much cheaper at Lowe's - BUT - unless you go there during the work day (not really practical unless you're a contractor) there's only about 4 people working in the whole place - very frustrating!

Speaking of contractors - a lot of them prefer HD as they can get a bigger markup (based on %) by going with the higher priced items...

Collapsed housing bubble is also a large part of it, I agree.
I beleive more folks are starting to compare actual pricing to other stores too.

Not up here in Rochester NY - You sit in front of ANY store here you get fined for loitering & hauled off to jail if you're caught again.

I walked into a Home Depot the other day and remembered why I don't buy anything in a physical store anymore - they never have shiat in stock. Luckily Lowe's ended up having what I needed - never going to Home Depot again. These days, physical stores just seem to serve as a show room; when I get home I look up all the stuff I saw on Amazon and order from there.

2011-11-15 11:23:24 PM
I've always found Lowes better than HD. The only problem is theres always a HD closer from whatever job I'm on. To me Home Depot is an aggravating experience. Every time you encounter a HD employee its "Can I help you find anything?". I know they are trained to do this but it gets farking old as you traverse the store getting materials. Do this a couple times a week (minimum) and you're ready to go Lloyd Bridges scene from Airplane versus the religious nuts. Its goddamn annoying.

Both HD and Lowe's suck. ACE is much, much better.
