Is community not getting good ratings? It's one of the few network shows that I watch regularly...

Chelsea Handler, Whitney....whatever her last name is.... NBC is going to ram these broads down our throats if it's the last thing they do.

/just so they keep Tina Fey

Community has never really gotten "good" ratings... really, none of the shows on NBC Thursday night do, even "The Office" overall has never been even a Top 30 show for a season (unless I am mistaken). But, NBC has basically been content with being the 3rd or 4th place network on Thursday nights with the comedies the last few years.

Hope they are totally killing off Prime Suspect, been watching that, pretty good show.

thomps: Is community not getting good ratings? It's one of the few network shows that I watch regularly...

It is not. It is a distant third behing the Big Bang Theory (which was moved to Thursdays to compete against it) and the X Factor.

I thing it may be time for some CHANGe at NBC!

There are no "good ratings" anymore. Either you dominate your timeslot or you're gone.

It's one of the few network shows that I watch regularly...

Excuse me. I wasn't aware you bought advertising. Your opinion is irrelevant.

I saw that Whitney show and I can't figure out if it's a comedy show or a show that's a satire of a comedy show with an ironic laugh-track thrown in.

It's nothing but hack comedy that's not original. It's just not good. She's not likeable. She's not hot, and she's not funny.

I liked the way Alan Sepinwall put it in his column: Community has been on a "kamikaze mission." Community is a great show with the best fans around -- if you haven't perused the Inspector Spacetime Confessions blog, you're missing out -- but it never had a chance to succeed. Not on NBC. Not in that time slot. And that really makes me angry because I love the characters and they clearly still have interesting places to go. But I guess Community fans are about to be reminded what it's like to have a show prematurely killed off.

/if it had been on Fox and led into Glee, it might be a massive hit
//speaking of premature cancellations, I just started watching Dollhouse on Netflix

Which is a shame cause her stand-up is hysterical.

I JUST got into Community and really like it. Granted, I watch it on hulu, but still. I even got the SO to say "this is actually a funny show" totally unprovoked after showing it to him. He never watches live action comedies.

From what I saw, Community isn't even drawing 4 million people anymore. Whitney is actually beating it.

NBC's just following the cold, hard numbers here. Community got too far down on the league table and it's relegation time.

Exactly. Why NBC hasn't scrapped the series yet is beyond baffling.

Whitney: On AFTER The Office. Changing the Channel is hard. People just keep watching.

Community, on too early, up against shiat reality singing show #4574456, and overly condescending show with a laugh track.

Switch em around and they might be on to something.

actually... 30 rock - parks and rec- office - community would be a good stretch.

I'm surprised they haven't moved Psyche and Burn Notice over to NBC, it's better than most of the shows they have now.

As of most recent episodes:

Biggest Loser: 6.86 million (2.4 rating)
The Office: 5.96 million (3.0)
Prime Suspect: 4.86 million (1.1)
Up All Night: 4.79 million (1.8)
Whitney: 4.28 million (2.1)
Parks and Recreation: 3.66 million (1.8)
Community: 3.49 million (1.5)
Rock Center with Brian Williams: 3.46 million (1.0)

And that is why Whitney lives while Community dies. And why you should start fretting over Parks and Recreation.

Never seen Whitney. Fark you if you're one of those watching it.

CRISIS ALERT!!!

2011-11-15 02:36:12 AM
I will not sacrifice Community. We've made too many compromises already; too many retreats. They cancel Firefly and Jericho and we fall back. They give us two or three seasons of brilliance with shows like Arrested Development, or Better Off Ted until finally cancelling them and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further!

And *I* will make them pay for what they've done.

2011-11-15 02:38:50 AM
I can understand where NBC is coming from... But at the same time I think that Community is one of the funniest, most underrated (at least by the public at large), cleverest shows on TV. That episode with the roll of the die was genius and hilarious. NBC, don't cancel it; move it to one of your other networks (USA, Bravo) or sell it to another channel if you have to, but don't pull the plug. Give it one more season---wouldn't they all graduate after 4 years anyway? Well, except for Pierce, but you get the idea...

You ain't making anyone pay for shiat, mister. Not you, or I, or any of us. We are not worth one cent toward a national media buy or .000001 of a share point.

Good TV is worth only one thing nowadays: publicity buzz. It wouldn't be there at all except that it functions as a tease to keep viewers hanging around in hopes that that "good TV" aura will carryover to whatever shiat gets shoveled out that will allow both programmers and sponsors to keep their heads well emplaced up their own asses.

In itself, quality TV is a loss leader. Advertisers shy away from it. Programmers don't believe in it. Networks make it pull a freight train to keep its slot, knowing it can't and won't perform miracles, and insuring it can be canceled as soon it generates its buzz. As long as people keep coming back expecting something good - and a little more resigned to watch whatever is even mediocre - nothing else matters.

I'm sorry, I really don't understand the viewing public sometimes. most times, really; Community (and Parks and Rec) are brilliantly funny shows, and are seriously being beat in ratings by the Biggest Loser? and the fairly "meh" and dragging on Office? and that horrible Whitney garbage?! and like someone else has pointed out, Firefly, Arrested Development, and Better off Ted all get killed off within a couple of seasons if that, but stuff like the big bang theory and desperate housewives and grey's anatomy can go on for years and years and years? why?

America has spoken. We want bland TV that doesn't challenge or distract us while we shove pie in our faces.

Okay, as someone who doesn't watch the show on a US station nor live in the US (so I can't watch episodes on the NBC site), HELP! How can I help boost this show's ratings? Are there places online I can pay to download episodes? I want to support it! I just don't know how. :(

2011-11-15 03:04:45 AM
I really don't get the audience anymore.

This show is about to get canned while tripe like Whitney stays on?

This move doesn't surprise me as it's NBC, they keep Leno and Office past their expiration dates.

Either move the show to USA or next season be it's last for closure sakes.

What do you want America? You want something good or you want dumbassery?

/Friend posted on facebook to stop whining and move on like we did with Arrested Development, should I unfollow him or ignore him?

You think "we" have dick to do with what we get given for entertainment? That pretense has been played out for decades. We're not the audience; we're the excuse. The machine has been refined to the point where marketers marking to marketers is all it needs to keep itself running.

#OccupyNBC #sixseasonsandamovie

Really disappointed by this development. Knew it wasn't doing hot in the ratings, but never thought they'd take it off the schedule outright.

If When NBC does cancel it, I hope it's able to move to another network (I'm looking at you ABC,) at least for a full, proper final season send off.

Would I love it if it really did go six seasons and a movie? Absolutely. Do I think it should at least get four years and end on its own terms? Even more so.
