Hair looks great. Fabrics look great. (though the debate can be made they are almost too clean/sterile)

Skin, however, still looks like crap

Wow, so CGI has advanced to the point where characters look exactly like plastic stop-motion dolls. Congrats Pixar.

That being said, I'll still happily take animated humans over talking animals or sentient household items any day.

It doesn't matter. Pixar made us go "Awww" for a desk lamp. They could put a box on the screen for 90 mins and somehow we'd be crying at some point.

All I know is that it looks an awful lot like "How to Train Your Dragon" and it as sure as hell better have Craig Ferguson doing one of the voices.

*checks Wiki*

Craig Ferguson as Lord Macintosh

Leaving satisfied.

Thank you! I've been trying to figure out who that reminded me of, and it was indeed Captain Leland Stottlemyer

As much as I adore Craig Ferguson I'm a wee bit more excited that Billy Connolly is voicing one of the characters!!

That's because they are too smart to try to jump over the uncanny valley before they know they can make it.

Exactly. They can make clothes and inanimate objects look realistic, but humans are tricky. I'd rather they not fail, keep to what they're very, very good at, and hire great writers.

And all the adults sob like little children sometime during the film.

It's kind of odd to use a very expensive proprietary 3D animation design and animation system and all that computing time and man hours to achieve an aesthetic that achieves a marginally slicker version of Rankin Bass stop motion animation.

good damn it Pixar.... Braveheart came out (so did RobRoy at the same time... but only like...30 people including me saw it)... and they we were stuck with a decade of shiatty catholic girls school skirts called "kilts" and even worse Scottish accents... the Pirates of the Caribbean series came out... and most of the kilts were replaced by shiatty pirate costumes and half assed Jack Sparrows... NOW we are just gonna see a swing back to half assed Scotsmen again... there was NO other direction you could go creatively? *sigh*...

/it's Pixar...I'll still see it...sure it will be awesome...just annoyed in advance for all the fan boys I'm going to have to endure.

Cool story, sis: There was this HUGE guy behind me at the theatre for Toy Story 3. Guy was easily 6 1/2 feet tall and 300+ pounds, ushering his kids and intimidating them with a look or a gruff threat when they got fussy before the movie started. I'm not a big crier at movies but that scene in the furnace when they all hold hands--gah. My husband is crying, woman next to me is sobbing, I'm tearing up...and then the huge guy behind me lets out this giant sob and I just lost it. Trying so hard not to laugh, my husband elbowing me to shut up, trying to disguise my giggles as sobbing...omg, I could barely breathe.

I watch that scene now and I still smile, remembering that big softie behind me.

John Lasseter claimed John Ratzenberger to be "Pixar's good luck charm," waaaaayy back after completion of A Bug's Life.

As a result, he has been given a voice role in every Pixar film. His smallest was in The Incredibles, where he only had one line (the Underminer's rant, in the very last scene of the movie).

Another item which has appeared in every Pixar movie -- with the singular exception of The Incredibles (I'm guessing Brad Bird isn't much into 'good luck charms') -- is the "Pizza Planet" truck.

Though .. it'd be kinda tricky to work that one into Brave.
