He lives in Michigan, he can buy a house for $1.95.

2011-11-14 07:08:36 PM
Actually, in some places he most certainly can, assuming his kids don't want houses and cars, too.

2011-11-14 07:08:50 PM
hmm...I could clear my mortgage, pay off the car AND still have enough left over to start a college fund for my neice and get everyone on my christmas list their very own iPad.

Can I be on your list too?

I know what subby obviously doesn't about credit and down payments.

2011-11-14 07:36:43 PM
Hmm, $176k. That means a new car for me in cash, $20k to each of my sisters for their Bachelor's and Master's funds respectively, another couple of thousand for good Christmas gifts, $50k to sit in a fund to finish off my degree without worry, plus some to keep me going for quite a while, and the other $25k I split to my parents to help with their houses.

Boring, isn't it?

2011-11-14 07:53:21 PM
Subby you don't have to buy a house with cash ya know. If he and his wife have decent credit and steady incomes they could get a mortgage. Or perhaps they actually have money saved. It does happen even in this day and age.

I'll tell you what I'd do, man: two chicks at the same time, man.

That's about $60 in Manilla.

My brother just bought a house for $65K. A new car might set you back $30K. Kids get $1000 each for presents. He'll wind up with 59% of that $176K, or a little over $100K.

Doable unless your wife has a clowncar-like vagina.

He actually got $225k. The $176 is post taxes.

Okay, I hope that they guy has a "happily ever after" life, but I just don't know...

The fact that this money will allow him to buy a new house where he previously couldn't is warning sign #1 for me. B: The new car implies that he either doesn't currently have one or drives a piece of shiat. And three--he's buying his kids "whatever they want". This tells me that there have been issues with Christmas in the past.

My take is that the car will be repo'ed, the house will be foreclosed, and his children will hate him. All within seven years.

Wow, those envelopes have gotten expensive. No wonder the Post Office is in trouble.

1. Hookers
2. Blow

Hey, that'll get you a house with indoor plumbing in these parts! Those snooty richies with their flush toilets.

2011-11-14 08:48:48 PM
He's in Grand Rapids, MI so:

1) It may be possible
2) Can I mock him by phone or email him? I don't go that far north unless there's an Island of Misfit Toys who need me and Rudolph swears Santa says I'm the only one who can help.

You forgot about the $60k for Uncle Sam.

And here's someone else who didn't read the article.

seeing as hes in ceder springs, he sure as hell could buy a new house and car for that much. or drugs. and seeing as this is ceder, ill put my money on drugs.

2011-11-14 08:54:06 PM
For me it would be

New house: 105k (downsizing from what I have to something easier to maintain)
New car: 15k (Except mine is less than a year old)

I'd have plenty left for presents

Can't see buying a 30k car. Why? A 15k car will get you there just the same (actually I'd buy used for about 10k)

Yes, but it's something that I have to continually work at.

The $176k is after Uncle Sugars cut.

I would buy a million pennies.

Some Cedar Springs, MI real estate:

Link (new window)

Oddly, anything from $85K to 2.2M.....go figure...

2011-11-14 09:00:07 PM
Quick Subby, make a comment similar to "well... he could buy a a house, new car and Christmas presents, if he can bare to stand with NOT living in a condo in downtown New York"

2011-11-14 09:01:01 PM
Assuming he might be able to also get some value for his old house and car.

Sounds like it'll all be gone though. Get your kids everything they want? Yeah, that'll turn out well.

2011-11-14 09:02:21 PM
OnlyM3: Dumbass proves why spreading the wealth won't solve anything.

On the contrary, the man will buy a house when there is too much real estate currently on the market, he will buy a new car, and plenty of presents. In other words, all that money will go back into the economy creating demand, and demand creates jobs. Plus if the man pays for a house with his winnings, that means he doesn't have to worry about a mortgage or rent again, and he now has more money in his pocket from now on.

What exactly would you have done with that money that would have been so much better?

2011-11-14 09:03:11 PM
Subby forgets the bubble burst on the housing market. He'll have money left over.

2011-11-14 09:04:52 PM
$175k?

$45k on a new F150
$22k on student loans
$2k for a Tag Hueueuer or whatever
$10k for strippers, beer, gambling, and whores
$50k in the savings account
$45k in the investment account

2011-11-14 09:04:59 PM
I'd build a pole barn to comfortably restore my '28 Chevy currently squeezed in my 11/2 garage. And expensive booze.

2011-11-14 09:08:11 PM
Yeah, he absolutely can buy all those things for that much. Subby is about 3 years two late with this headline.

2011-11-14 09:11:04 PM
New windows and siding for house.
Newer used Toyota Highlander
A few k on personal stuff like a tablet and new suits.
The rest invested, possibly start sideline business.

2011-11-14 09:11:29 PM
First, Uncle Sam takes his by gunpoint, leaving me with ~ 116k (assuming 39% tax rate)

1) Pay off the rent house
2) Pay off the Harley
3) Pay off the truck
4) Pay off $775 in CC debt
5) Spend 2k on me and the wife
6) bank the rest

that was easy..............

2011-11-14 09:12:35 PM
Well that's obviously not enough for two chicks at the same time. But he can probably get one for an hour or so.

2011-11-14 09:12:36 PM
Stupid, tardmitter.
For one thing, maybe he already had $50k saved towards the house.
For another, houses in Cedar Springs don't cost the same as in San Francisco.
Why did this get greenlit...

2011-11-14 09:12:38 PM
I would put a good chunk down on my mortgage (only got it less than a year and a half ago), pay off the new car I bought back in May (paid for over half of it up front in cash, so the loan was under 10k to begin with), redo my bathroom, and put the rest in an interest-bearing fun-fund. Since I would keep working, I could move a lot more money into savings.

2011-11-14 09:13:35 PM
hmmmm...didnt rtfa and didnt rtft.

Assuming 176k.......

I'd change:

5) Go on vacation with me and the wife to Rome

2011-11-14 09:15:00 PM
"Why did this get greenlit..."

So we could all circlejerk about what we'd do with the money, duh..........

Pass the biscuit!
