Hell it's not that hard to hand off to Foster or Tate.

The Italian Farker: Hell it's not that hard to hand off to Foster or Tate.

Considering your friends over here in the South have been doing that for years and we can tell you they'll just sit on you in the box, good luck.

In other news, the Titans are now the likely AFC South winners.

Schedules before Week 17 rematch in Houston:

Houston (7-3): @Jax, Atl, @Cin, Car, Indy
Tennessee (5-4): @Atl, TB, @Buf, NO, @Indy, Jax

Even with Leinart, I think Houston has at least 2 wins in there, so, they are at worst 9-6 at that point.

Tennessee I think goes probably 3-3 in some configuration... so, that is 8-7.

I'm not sure who'd get the tie breaker if Tennessee wins, but, I think Tennessee needs to be 4-2 or 5-1 to catch Houston most likely, and I'm not sure they are stable enough to do that.

So you're thinking Houston will beat Carolina but you don't think they'd beat Indy?

I'm confused because the only reason for you to give us their Week 16 record is if they were playing each other on Week 17.

Yea, with Manning out, houston will still probably win the south, then be one and done.

Yeah, even with Schaub out, it's going to be pretty tough to throw this playoff spot away. They're toast once they get there, but they'll have that monkey off their back, at least.

It is Houston, though, the sleeper that never actually wakes up, so there's always a chance they can screw this up yet.

2011-11-15 03:28:04 AM
Leinart may have learned enough to be a sevicable backup, but more importantly, almost every game they have remaining is winnable(I doubt they beat the Bengals w/ Leinart and Falcons might be tough). So they'll probably one and done it.

For a team that has never gone to the playoffs, that's pretty good.

What if Kurt Warner instructed Leinart in the ways of stepping in and winning?

Why is it when a Houston sports team get "Playoff Bound" there somebody on the team that gets a season-ending foot injury?

Yao Ming is somewhere laughing at this.....

At least we have the Dynamo for the MLS cup this Sunday.

Leinart redeem himself, leads them to a SB loss, gets a giant contract from Seattle, then reverts back to his old self.

Lost Thought 00: Leinart redeem himself, leads them to a SB loss, gets a giant contract from Seattle, then reverts back to his old self.

Seattle doesn't want anything to do with him. They brought him to Seattle last summer, checked him out, and, from what I remember, either didn't offer a contract, or only put forth a token one. The whole Pete Carroll is rebuilding USC thing is kind of played out. He's been pretty impartial.

That said, I think if Andre Johnson gets back soon, Leinart will have a better time than he did in Arizona. He didn't really have much of a chance there: no running game, and Fitzgerald and Boldin were still developing.

As a Pats fan I'd just like to thank Houston for now giving the Pats that first round bye that they need

I've pretty much been the biggest Leinart apologist for the last five years. I still think it could've worked in AZ and I hope it works in Houston.

Huh? They were both pro bowlers. Now I don't think Matty was treated fairly but its not because of his receivers.

First of all, nothing that has come from the Texans has said Shaub is out for the season. Only that the injury is "significant." Moreover, as bad as the injury is, it came at the best possible time:

1. The upcoming bye week will lessen the missed number of games no matter how many actual weeks are missed
2. With Andre Johnson getting back, we will finally have the same starters together again from last years prolific offense to put around Leinart
3. Not only are Foster and Tate the best RB duo in the league, but Ward looked like he was back in his 1000 yard season in the few carries he did get. Shaub himself has only been throwing around 15 passes a game
4. Quite frankly, everyone knew this was this was going to be a run-heavy offense since Johnson went out. They are still third in rushing yards per game
5. The revolution of the defense means Leinart wont have to score much anyway; As much as Leinart lost in Arizona, he didn't exactly have a stellar defense to back him up

Looking at the rest of the season, there is no reason they should lose to Indy, Carolina, Jacksonville or Tennessee. So at worst they are 11-5. If they don't have Shaub by playoffs they won't make noise, but they will be there.

Boldin was a veteran when Leinart got there and Fitzgerald has been great from day 1. There's no way they were holding Leinart back.

2011-11-15 08:52:20 AM
I think all that Leinart has to do is to not turn the ball over, and he'll be ok. Houston's passing game revolves around the play action pass, and he is going to get more wide open looks than he ever got in Arizona. Plus, he is way more mobile than Schaub, and can actually pick up short first downs running, something missing from the Texans offense this year. And the coach is going to be on his side, and will tailor the offense to suit his talents. I think that the Texans will be just fine.

This is what Leinart has to face for the rest of the season;

W12, Jaguars; #4 Ranked Defense, #5 Ranked Pass Defense, #14 Ranked Rush Defense
W13, Falcons; #14 Ranked Defense, #23 Ranked Pass Defense, #3 Ranked Rush Defense
W14, Bengals; #5 Ranked Defense, #10 Ranked Pass Defense, #2 Ranked Rush Defense
W15, Panthers; #20 Ranked Defense, #14 Ranked Pass Defense, #28 Ranked Rush Defense
W16, Colts; #29 Ranked Defense, #21 Ranked Pass Defense, #31 Ranked Rush Defense
W17, Titans; #15 Ranked Defense, #15 Ranked Pass Defense, #22 Ranked Rush Defense

If the Texans split the rest of their games, it will still be the most successful team in franchise history.

I never thought that Leinart was as bad as people have made him out to be. I guess we'll see.

I always thought he lacked arm strength. That shouldn't hurt him as much in houston's offense.

Why so pessimistic?
There's still a man out there ready to answer the call and save a season.
A man who has become a household name, nay.. a legend.

That man.. is Jake Delhomme.

I'm also of the mind that Leinart didn't get a fair shake in Arizona, but he ran himself out of town there. He was a whiny entitled biotch when they brought in Derek Anderson, and if he would've kept his mouth shut he definitely would've started some games last year.

Like some of you said, he's in a great situation now. Andre will be back, great running game, great defense. It's all lined up for him to have a decent run and get a chance to start and fail in Washington next year.

First of all, nothing that has come from the Texans has said Shaub is out for the season. Only that the injury is "significant." Moreover, as bad as the injury is, it came at the best possible time:

It's a Lisfranc injury. It's not that he might be back...they are going to get 4/5 different opinions on how bad the injury is. Most have to have surgery, and miss significant time. His obviously isn't a complete tear, as he was able to throw off of it (if only a few times) in the 2nd half.

So they are just trying to see if he needs surgery or not. If the consensus is surgery, do it ASAP, so he'll be ready by the start of next regular season.

They have the #1 defense, with a top 5 offense, and the schedule is very manageable. They can go 3-3 or 4-2 in that stretch.

As for Leinart, as long as he can play within the system, they'll be fine, in the REGULAR SEASON. As in the playoffs, not so much. It's a different level of QB play in the playoffs. But who knows, he may be able to Dilfer this team, and possibly win a playoff game...especially against say a Patriots team that has a horrible defense.

But, get ready for 9 in the box. Let's hope he can find Andre, Daniels and Foster in the flats, b/c if he can just avoid turnovers, they'll be fine.

Did I mention they'll be fine?

"To come in and here that today," Johnson said, "it was kind of like, 'Wow.' Now you're hearing rumors that it's possible he could miss the rest of the season and things like that. So it's kind of like, where did all of that come from?"

Et tu, Associated Press?

Already been said, but it's really not the end of their world. Houston has a strong defense, great running attack, and Leinart isn't the worst guy to have to throw in there. Plus they're 1 1/2 games up on Tennessee with a head to head win already & are 3-0 in the division (vs. 1-2 for the Titans), so just beating Jacksonville, Indy, and Carolina should be enough.

2011-11-15 11:29:39 AM
They've probably cost themselves a top 2 seed but they'll finish ahead of SD/Oak for the 3 seed. So they get second place team from the AFC North/East. None of the suspects (Jets, Steelers/Raven) are fun to run against.

I think the bigger issue is this is the death of Owen Daniels as top end TE in FFB.

Yeah.... Dreesen has been getting some of Daniels' looks (and making spectacular grabs when he gets the chance) but the both TEs wlll probably get more targets w/ Leinart... Teams will concentrate on Andre The Giant as he stretches the field, and the TEs and backs will be open on shorter routes...

At least that's what I think I think

The Texans have been throwing the ball a whole lot more than you think. Schaub dropped 50+ passes a few weeks back against the Raiders. The only game where he's thrown less than 20 passes was the game he got hurt and they were raping the Bucs at the time. The run/pass ratio has been pretty balanced -- it's actually run heavy until you normalize the scrambles by Schaub due to pressure -- but Leinart is going to have a tough time being remotely as productive as Schaub. I don't know how the snap breakdown works for the Texans in practice, but if Schaub is anything like Manning (and most great QBs) he takes most, if not all, of the snaps. If Leinart can be mediocre to average, the Texans will be tough to beat. Just get ready for a lot of short games dominated by running and defense.

While the last part is true, Leinart had an okay year in his rookie year (not spectacular, but some good games and some bad ones) under Denny Green. Whisenhunt came in and installed his offense and instead of trying to work around the talents of his players just expected Leinart to become a deep passer and then basically accused him of not trying when Leinart couldn't do it. It's kind of well-noted that Whisenhunt (a former late-round draft pick) didn't like Leinart from day one.

He has a much better chance of being successful with Kubiak.

I don't think he'll be great, but he should be serviceable, which will be nice after everyone acting as though he was worse than JaMarcus Russell.

IAmRight: It's kind of well-noted that Whisenhunt (a former late-round draft pick) didn't like Leinart from day one.

Wisenhunt also got an engineering degree from Georgia Tech while Leinart was skating through USC by taking classes like ball room dancing. Not to mention he was definitely the biggest dog on a campus crawling with hot co-eds while Wisenhunt was a gritty player surrounded by nerdy dudes. Yeah, I can see how the two didn't really see eye-to-eye.
