well, bye.

Great job, NBA players. Instead of forsaking your desires of having a seventeenth car in the driveway, you've chosen to take away thousands of jobs from cities across the US. Ticket takers, parking attendants, food sellers, janitors. People who would kill for a few more quarters an hour. This proves all the more that you're all about the money, not about the game. fark you and your "professional" sport. You make me sick.

Oh, and basketball sucks.

Who cares? It's football season.

The soon to be defunct NBA.

2011-11-14 04:11:33 PM
I don't know how I'll get through the day if there's no NBA.

You're not wrong, but there's more to it than just the players' greed.

Like, the owners' greed. The league's greed. etc...

And someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't it come down to a few percentage points of revenue sharing?

germ78: well, bye.

Also, this.

Goddamnit. I was really looking forward to this season. This is really pissing me off.

I hope there is never another NBA game. A bunch of overpaid thugs. The players seem to be unaware that if the season is cancelled completely, and somehow they get 52% starting next year for 10 years, they are making less than the original 50% offer. Math is hard.

2011-11-14 04:13:43 PM
Since there isn't going to be Basketball this year, after the NFL season, The only sport for ESPN to report on is Hockey.

Yes, because it's the talent's responsibility to ensure that the business side has jobs for people. In related news, every office worker making >$X per year should take a pay cut so the office janitor can have a "few more quarters an hour".

Like the baseball strike before it, this one will also cause the entire league to go out of business and bring an end to a major American professional sport.

Was looking forward to a Chicago sports Christmas double header, oh well.

Dumb move players.

Indeed. They clearly should just take whatever the owners offer them. After all, the owners are the ones that are locking them out and made an offer that attempts to take away billions from the players over the next few years.

/don't mind that there's not going to be an NBA, but the owners are the douchiest of all douches

ESPN must be pissed about missing the NHL contract.

Should they be good little [redacted] and do what the man tells them for what the man wants to give them?

Such a black day for the sport. A dark, black day. Why is the NBA full of such big dicks?

2011-11-14 04:15:26 PM
Well, all that cocaine isn't going to snort itself.

Now that the union is defunct does it mean that the teams can hire non-union scabs without collective bargaining privilages?

He had been also been trying to sell publicly the benefits of the N.B.A.'s latest offer.

Looks like one of the players has already landed a new position as a NYT editor.

Came here to say this. These players are idiots.

Won't someone please think of the millionaires!?

Seriously lol'ing at the talk of anti-trust proceedings. You play the game of basketball, FFS. You're not doctors or pilots or captains of industry. Morons...

I for one hope this leads to people supporting local high school and college teams instead. Why support professionals with $10 beverages when you can instead make sure your local teams have jerseys, can go on trips, and have equipment? Local teams provide far more social value than the overpaid buffoons on both sides of this argument.

2011-11-14 04:16:11 PM
When the owners offer went from 53% to 50% and now 47%, you knew there wasn't going to be a season.

Not that I'm going to miss it.

2011-11-14 04:16:29 PM
And nothing of value was lost, except for the hours of poker that ESPN will shove down our throats in an attempt to convince us it's a sport.

2011-11-14 04:16:32 PM
If you follow the only other precedent from a professional sport canceling a season (2004-5 NHL), it just means they're going to sign off an a deal which is even worse for them next season.

2011-11-14 04:17:06 PM
at least they will all have quality educations, experience and a polished skill set to offer the market place. Able to continue their high standard of living indefinitely.

I'm sorry but it is hard for me to care about any of them when most make millions per year. Hell the league minimum is almost 500K per year.

I guess Kobe's $170,000,000 contract with the Lakers is just not enough money.

You would think that in an economy which sees an unemployment rate of 9.3 percent, that these filthy rich bastages would be a little reasonable when it comes to renewing their lucrative contracts.

2011-11-14 04:17:43 PM
You get to play basketball for a living. Do you understand that?

I would easily leave my day job and take a pay cut if I could do my hobby every day, and I make less than the median wage in America.

You greedy farks.

2011-11-14 04:17:47 PM
antitrust? I agree.
There should be hundreds of teams and everyone involved should be making hundreds of dollars... a year.

2011-11-14 04:17:49 PM
To all those who say "who cares": I care. I'm happy about this. I hope this is the final nail in the NBA's coffin and the end of David Stern's career.

Owners seem to be unaware that if the season is cancelled completely, people will stop buying their product.

/not that any of them actually own the franchises to make money anyway
