I admire the man for his convictions and his desire to see better days for his native land.

The book mentioned in TFA, however, was boring as all hell. Having it as required reading in HS didn't help matters either.

New Nigerian spam I got over the weekend:

FROM: ROBERT MUELLER III EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FBI FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION WASHINGTON DC. FBI SEEKING TO WIRETAP INTERNET

The federal bureau of investigation (FBI).Through our intelligence-monitoring network has discovered that the transaction that the bank contacted you previously was legal.Recentlythe fund has been legally approved to be paid via Central Bank of Nigeria.

So, we, the federal bureau of investigation (FBI) Washington Dc, in conjunction with the United Nations (UN) financial department have investigated through our monitoring network noting that your transaction with the Central Bank of Nigeria legal. You have the legitimate right to complete your transaction to claim your fund US$10.7,000,000.00

LOL. "Federal bureau of investigation (FBI) here, just thought you should know that Nigerian scam is totally legit! So we say at teh federal bureau of investigation (FBI)"

Well, if you can't trust people that say they're the federal bureau of investigation (FBI), who can you trust?

I thought it was pretty powerful stuff, but I agree, there were a lot of books that were required for me to read and I think that I was too young to really appreciate them.

aw hell naw.

it was required reading for me in HS, also, although i loved it (and still do), and i think it's one of the most gripping and heart-wrenching things i've read (though i admittedly haven't read it for a while). that said, it could have been the contrast between that and wuthering heights, which i hate with the passion of a million heathcliffs fire of a million suns.

If English is the official language in Nigeria, why do they write so piss-poorly?

As for required reading, I wish anything by Ayn Rand had been. Atlas Shrugged was only on a suggested reading list and it's over 1000 pages long so I went with Catcher in the Rye instead. I couldn't identify with Holden at all until I was maybe 22. I've had more in common with Hank Rearden in Atlas Shrugged.

CBS national, and apparently their local affiliates too (I'm looking at you WBNS Columbus) have the WORST when it comes to mobile sites. Main articles don't crossover to mobile, and the mobile site looks like it was designed to run on a web accessible phone from 2004, when color to a phone was new.

Things Fall Apart was the only book we had in High School, other than Jane Eyre, that I thought was actually trying to tell a story and not just demonstrate an interesting writing style or poetic vocabulary. Looking at you, As I Lay Dying, Heart of Darkness, Great Gatsby (more of an extended poem), Tess, and Scarlet Letter. A tip for those who will read it- it is divided into two parts in hopes that the reader will notice parallels between it and another famous book with two parts. There's more to the story than that and not everything lines up, but it is still a big part of what he was trying to say.

Thank you. I thought I was the only one who got irritated by crap like that. What's the point of a mobile site if it doesn't direct you to a mobile version of the content you were seeking? And even worse, doesn't give you the option to disable mobile site, so there's no way to read the article unless you can dig through the site to find it buried somewhere. Completely useless.
