I was watching the lower weight class women lift the other day. Completely depressing. Nothing like seeing a 17 year old, 125 pound girl snatch your squat max.

Power lifters tend to be pretty big.

So this would be a bad time to mention that I practiced my clean and jerk afterwards?

Well that depends on how old you are and if you are a woman, I dont know of any 17 year old who could snatch a grown mans squat max, unless you are a tiny little man.

All those women are fugly as hell and its not that impressive once you see that high school football players put that weight up in videos on youtube all the time.

Not sure if serious, or just being dickish. In the 58Kg women's class (127.6 lb) the high snatch (that's from ground to overhead in one move) was 103kg (226 lb). That's a normal bar plus 2 45lb plates on each side, which isn't out of whack for a young man in highschool of average size who's starting out on basic lifts like a squat. Since it's easily apparent that the snatch is about 1,000 times harder and more complex than a squat, then seeing a 17 year old 125 pound girl even within sniffing distance of your squat, let alone snatching it is a real shock to the psyche.

The kinds of things an elite Olympic weight lifter can do (man or woman) makes any normal person's balls just want to shrivel up and die. See Bulgarian weightlifting video below from the 90's - one guy snatches 170kg like nothing, another squats 250kg (550lb) without spot, easy as pie, looks like a cab-driver.

The guys tend to be not very attractive as well, it's a sport where all that matters is how much you can lift, nobody cares how you look.

They consume 6,000 calories a day.

Bodybuilding/fitness competition is another story.

I'd be willing to bet a lot of them are taking steroids too. Not born yesterday.

The most I ever benched was 110 lb(free) and the military press was 75 or so, and I lifted weights since I was 14. You just hit a wall, although I might have gone a little higher with training. I'm a 5'6 woman, and strong all things considered.

cefm: Not sure if serious, or just being dickish.

Okay, I weight 175 pounds. Reasons why my squat is so low:

1) I squat ATG. Yeah, I could squat 275 pounds if I quarter squatted too.
2) I didn't start training of any form until I was 25
3) I had literally no muscle to begin with since I had some hormone problems in high school and college and didn't have appreciable amounts of testosterone until I was about 22 years old.

For the record, my deadlift is right at around 315. Which isn't great, but dammit, I'm still proud of it.

And HGH, and insulin, and who farking knows what else. The Chinese women's swim team has certainly been caught doping before. Of course, the only thing different about that or some of the former Warsaw pact nations' exploits was government policy as opposed to individual initiative in cheating.

Ok, I was kind of just farking with you but a majority of women will never see this feat in their life, testosterone loss sucks, I got caught up in the whole "get bigger now!!" crowd and used some illegals and it farked up my levels now, Im still luckier than my friend who kept abusing them and has now torn most of his muscle groups and now is in pain most of the time.

Nice deadlift by the way for such a late start, just remember muscles have memory and if you ever get injured you can bounce back quicker now that you have started! I should know for almost 4 years I couldnt lift because I had a serious shoulder issue and have just started again after 4 rotator cuff procedures(3 surgeries and 1 scope) it sucks but I will hopefully be back to my norms soon.

TwistedIvory: 328kg is a pretty damn serious amount of weight. I'm impressed. My own max competition deadlift is only about 25kg more.

Yeah and you dont train like most of these girls, do you? Most of us have jobs and spending 8-10 hours a day in the gym is just not feasible, I used to get up at 5am but the GF started biatching when her job hours changed so now if I am going I have to let her know so one of us sleeps in the spare bedroom(usually me of course)

I also do not understand why most of these women appear so fat, most power lifters I have known are on the heavy side but no where near this level of fat.

steamingpile: I also do not understand why most of these women appear so fat, most power lifters I have known are on the heavy side but no where near this level of fat.

It has to do with weight distribution and hormones. Women put on proportionately more fat with the muscle they gain than men do. This is also why women bodybuilders aren't as thick as the men, even though they do get as cut - to lose the fat, they lose more muscle along the way.

AHHHH I got her to admit it, women arent equal!

Ok JK, I never knew that was why, I just figured female body builders liked to eat and eat and eat.....

I read the diets of some bodybuilders like Arnold and Lee Haney, it was staggering the amount of food they would eat in a day, most people dont eat that much in a week or a month.
