I will never understand the willingness of entrepreneurs to use the word "hustle" to describe their activities.

I know it has multiple meanings and they mean it in the "work hard, consistently" context, but it always bring to mind, for me, people who run a three-card monty game, and the connotation of underhanded, shady dealings.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

"Silicon Valley" is still around? I thought that sham ended ten years ago.

Well it doesn't help when the lie peddled to minorities is that you can only be successful if you're an entertainer or an athlete. It would be nice to see Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton do less chasing of the latest controversy and more helping minority communities to grow and expand their world view.

Perhaps the unicorn is just there to inscribe the Primal Pattern and bring Amber forth from Chaos.

Would the cameras even show up if they did?

Three card monty is an entrepreneurial venture. And it embodies everything a dotcom did: Dazzle, pitch, close, and someone to run off with the money when things go against you.

If I had a product to pitch to live crowds I would go out of my way to find a three card monty hustler. They are kings of shady, underhanded dealings but the talent also works in the light.

I work in the Valley, the guy has a point. People do stereotype here. If you're Indian they assume you're a programmer. If you're Chinese you have to be an engineer. If you're black you're without a doubt a unicorn.

I am I missing something? Because I'm pretty sure he's in marketing/media/consulting and biatching about how people expect him to dress and talk a certain way. He may have picked the wrong field.

If you want to be able to act however you want you need be someone like Gates or Jobs. Get a hot product, get fame, and you can be eccentric. When you're on the service industry side of things buy a suit.
