Theoretically, the RR's right-of-way should be large enough to contain sparks from passing trains.

There's no indication that the building caught fire directly from the passing train. My intuition tells me that the field that the building was in caught fire and then it spread to the building. What do you do then? Build a concrete pad all the way around the barn?
