Macross Plus, Aria, and Haibane Renmei all feature modern wind generators as Scenery Porn.

They don't serve any material function in the plot. That is, the plot doesn't mention wind power or use any kind of drama function of "if the wind doesn't pick up the life support will cut off and Momma will die!" or whatever. And you don't see power generating equipment in dramatic shots like this.

Clearly, they're showcasing the beauty of modern wind generators as aesthetic features. So, evidently, a lot of people DO find them pretty.
