Put it on a stick and it would look like an old-fashioned lollipop. Put it on it's side, as one commentor said, and it would look like a Roomba.

It looks like the old school candy-colored iMacs crossed with a golf cart.

I don't know about you, but these things just don't look safe. I was recently hit by a semi truck and if I was driving something like this, I would've been a stain on I-95.

Urban car. It's not meant to be in semi-rich environments and probably not meant to go highway speeds.

Think of it as a Vespa with an extra set of wheels and something to keep the rain off you and I think you'll be closer to the intended use of the thing.

I see them all the time on the highways in CT (well, Smart Cars, anyway). Even so, I think even a relatively low-speed rear-ender in an urban setting would positively wreck that thing.

I'm not sure where that thing would fit within the vehicular classification and therefore, what safety requirements it would have. If it just had three wheels, it could be classified as a motorcycle and damn near all the safety regs for cars would not apply to it. To my knowledge, all "cars" (4 or more wheels?) have pretty stringent safety requirements. On the other hand, some states (like mine) allow those small, cheap Japanese, Korean and Chinese utility trucks to operate at 55 MPH and below on pretty much all roads except interstates and turnpikes. Dunno if there could be an exception made for Suzuki's little braingasm.

If I'm gonna be seen in something like that, it's gonna at least look like this:

www.quickcashauto.com

IIRC, you can order a canopy for these things for when it rains too

However, the tin can in the article is most likely a lot cheaper.

It's getting harder to differentiate these micro-cars from children's cars.

FTFY

Also a "Smart" car is just about as expensive as my car, gets about the same gas mileage and I can seat 4-5 and has a fairly roomy trunk (for a pretty small car).

And am I the only one that initially read the headline from the article as "Suzi Q" not "Suzuki Q"?

That's what they say when they buy them, and then two months later they start commuting with the damn things. I see Smart Fortwo's on the highways here all the time where the speed limit is 110 kph and everyone goes over 120. We also have lots of heavy industrial traffic. These boneheads are just in everybody's way.

If I was going in something small, I'd prefer it not look like a rolling joke.
The original puma concept didn't look too bad. Even the smart doesn't look this doorkly.

Don't you have Android tablets to report on, Engadget? I heard there's a new one out with the Tegra 2 processor!

A city car isn't really intended for highway driving, but that seems to be something Americans can't comprehend.

So long as they stick in one of the motorcycle motors it'll be interesting. Probably even get better mileage.

I have an '07 Yaris as well. I drive it from Dallas to Chicago a few times a year and only have to fill up 2.5 times. It's roomy and comfortable for multiple people. I'd take it over a smart car anyday.
